I enjoyed both Hobbit movies. Though by the time Smaug appeared in the second movie, my brain was starting to shut down from too much stimulus.

I'm tired of unrealistic chases.

Hobbits, Elves, Orcs/Goblins, Dwarves, Giant Spiders, a ManBearWolf, a Dragon, and an evil Sorcerer. Seeing a trend here?

Problem is fantasy has a thin line, sure there is magic and mythical creatures but those chases are just silly, not magical or heroic. Good fantasy needs to be rooted in its own (though magical)science. Bombur turning into a Cuisinart is just stupid. Seems PJ took the moments I most disliked from LOTR like Legolas shield riding and the Green Army of the Dead and ran with them. LOTR is great because of great source material AND it took itself seriously.

Peter Jackson got that way with King Kong in a lot of the chase scenes, but that only started to affect me on reviews, not on the initial viewing.

When I saw King Kong in the theater it was the most majestic thing I've ever witnessed on the big screen.

It looks like it is inbetween LOTR and the other hobbit movies, completely different feel to the trailer for me. Cant freaking wait.

I like the Hobbit movies, but like many other posters, I dislike Jackson's penchant for overlong action scenes with little to no regard for realism.

And by realism, I don't mean the kind of realism that includes dwarfs, dragons and elves.

I mean the realism that includes gravity and basic physics.

see I thought that the battle sequences is 2 and 3 of the LOTR trilogy were great pieces of action and movie.

don't expect any realism out of this movie didn't you notice how unrealistic the first one was. Same with the second.

let it slide.

it looks like Peter Jackson is really going to push this battle stuff. Or maybe that is just the central part of the plot. But if memory serves me correctly the battle of five armies doesn't get that much treatment in the hobbit, it is a part of a chapter pretty much. So it seems like Peter is going to stretch the last 2 chapters into a movie, and somehow transition to the LOTR trilogy.

edit: it is 4 chapters not as bad as I thought, but it is likely Peter Jackson will take liberties.

did you not see the post I was responding to?

he said no crap elves and dragons are unrealistic but at-least have physics.

I told him don't expect that, The first movie didn't really account for physics at all. Usually a few hundred foot drop would kill you, plus a 500 pound troll would also kill you.

I don't care about scientific reality in a fantasy movie, even if people fall hundreds of feet and come out without injury.

Looks very good. Think it will serve as a great transition between the two trilogies.

The LotR trilogy is the best trilogy ever put on film IMO, but I am able to watch these without comparing them too much to LotR. I agree that it's not fair to compare them, but also agree that it's sort of inevitable that it will happen with most people. I think the first two Hobbits have been really fun and solid, and Smaug was incredible. But at the same time, I did get tired of the "unreal" scenes (like the falling bridge in the cavern from the first one) and stuff like that. Also, they are sort of "cartoony" if that makes sense. But this is all coming from a non-reader of the book(s), and I've been told (on here) that that's sort of how the books portray the dwarves.
