Looking for a last minute beach rental and see that site has gone to absolute crap. You used to be able to see accurate calendars, interface with actual independent owners, etc. now the site is just one big clusterF.

My last rental I interacted directly with the owners. I haven't had a bad experience yet.

I still use it every year, but you don't seem to get as good of deals as you used to get.

Used it 3 times this year and have another set up in 2 weeks.

Maybe you can adapt to change and not be a baby back bitch.

Where I off to? I do last min 3-4 times a yr and call the local beach companies. Easy to reach, have details immediately, and have a sense if urgency to make a deal. Only use VRBO for stuff in advance.

quote:

some of that has to do with owners not updating their data.

as 480's already mentioned, check out airbnb.

You're probably one of whiny types that get all bent out of shape if the owners don't cut you a special deal.

No but seriously, I have always had to rifle through a couple bull shite places to eventually get a nice one. I always go after the ones with at least a few reviews.

I do have to agree with the OP. Last few times I've had to use it replies from owners were slow. Even to return phone calls. Airbnb I was chatting with the owner within minutes.

I've used VRBO 4 times this year, and interacted with the owner every time. You are probably looking at the cheap arse properties that are managed by companies.

I tried to use vrbo a couple of weeks ago. It was awful. None of the calendars had been updated. Some were 3 to 4 weeks outdated. I booked 2 weeks ago through another site, but I had a lady call me yesterday in response to an inquiry that I made three weeks ago. She sounded surprised and annoyed that I had moved on.

I agree. It's complete BS. I try to use them for our beach trips and most properties that come up are not "Rent by Owner" but a management company who could care less about updating the calendar since they direct you to their website at the bottom of their listing. VRBO should have a policy that only the property owner can list. I need to try this airbnb thing.

They are owned by the same company, bu I switch between VBRO and Homeaway, depending on the region one is usually better than the other
