Here I was thinking that the main people who were benefiting from this law were middle and upper class people who were denied coverage due to prior sickness.

I can understand subsidies for poorer folks, but you cannot tell me with a straight face that almost 90% of enrollees need those subsidies.

Pisses me off to no end seeing people like Jeauxbleaux getting insurance for $45 fricking dollars/month.

People paid more than that 25 years ago.

Subsidies are available for people earning up to 400% of the poverty level. So 87% receiving subsidies is not the least bit surprising to me. The amount of subsidy decreases as income increases. So the subsidies some receive are actually quite small.

And the people from 34 states that do not have state exchanges will lose said subsides if the plaintiff, Halbig, wins in the DC Circuit court in Hlbig vs. Burwell. A ruling is imminent.

What made you think that? I am pro-ObamaCare but I always thought the number of uninsured due to cost was higher. Plus, these numbers are only for those who used the website.

Technically all insurance is an "Obamacare" policy now, to my understanding. Although some people can still get the catastrophe policies under ObamaCare as well.

Many warned that Obamacare was a socialized wealth transfer dressed up to look like a market.

They were ridiculed.

It's not a subsidy; it's an advanced tax credit. It's actually based on a previous year's income.

If your income based is higher that what is listed on the Obamacare site you owe the IRS money.

The IRS has already red flagged over 1 million people receiving assistance for Obamacare, whose previous tax returns show them making too much money to qualify for the tax credit.

My kid's employer just switched from PPO to an HMO with an HSA(don't you just love acronyms?) because their Insurance Policy went up 48% from last year.

Single with no kids, so not effected that much.

But the ones with kids are really upset.

BWAAHAAHAAHAAHAAHAAHAAHAAHAAHAAHAA!!!

Oh... wait... You were serious??

The ACA was always nothing more than government taking over an industry so the party in control could buy votes by saying "look at what we're giving you". It's why so many fiscally responsible people were so doggedly against it. It's a failing proposition that stood only on the most shaky of math.

I'm not. For liberal progressives it's all about placating the ignorant masses with government dependency to keep that lock-step voting block. In other words it's all about power through control.

I remember when I single making around 45k as an independent contractor. I remember those nights of hunger pains because of my health insurance premiums. Now, no more beans and rice for me...

Thanks BO

The survey finds that nearly half (46 percent) of Exchange enrollees say they are getting financial help from the government to help pay their monthly premium, which is substantially lower than official data (according to the Department of Health and Human Services, 87 percent of those selecting a plan in the Marketplace qualified for a premium tax credit).

So if 87% are getting a government subsidies and only 46% say they are getting them, does that seem to be a problem?

quote:

Multiple factors may be contributing to this apparent under-reporting on the survey, but it is likely that at least some individuals receiving government financial help may be unaware that the government is paying a portion of their premium.

Maybe some of those 2.1 million Americans getting subsidies and not knowning it aren't eligible?
