One of Marvel Comics’ most iconic heroes is in for a major change.
The studio announced on “The View” on Tuesday that Thor, the hammer-wielding Norse God of Thunder, would now be a woman.
“It's a huge day in the Marvel Universe,” the show's moderator, Whoopi Goldberg, said. “Thor, the God of Thunder, he messed up, and he's no longer worthy to hold that damn hammer of his. For the first time in history, that hammer is being held by a woman. That's right. Thor is a woman!”
Few details are available at the moment, but Goldberg said that the new, female Thor modeled herself after the original one, as he saved her life. Now, she's the one holding Mjolnir, which makes her the legendary hero.

Wasn't Thor cursed to live as a woman before?
Or am I just getting my fetishes confused?

Loki did time as a chick, so I guess it's an asgardian thing.

Whoopi Goldberg announcing that Thor is now a woman killed my soul. Literally. My soul is dead and i feel a dark emptiness inside.
frick Marvel for allowing WHoopi to make this announcement.

Not a big deal. Thor's power can transfer to whoever is worthy to hold Mjolnir.
In the DC/Marvel crossover, Wonder Woman picked it up.
Technically, it has been done before with Thor Girl. She wasn't using Mjolnir, but she has essentially all of Thor's strengths.

If I can remember my mythology correctly, Thorndid dress up as his sister or something like that a couple of times to trick a would be suitor.

Don't they have a series where the children of the Avengers have a run?
Doesn't Thor have a daughter with Sif named Thorunn who wields Mjolnir?
Edit: yes they do. It's the same series where James Rogers (son of Captain America and Black Widow), Henry Pym (son of Ant-Man and Wasp), Francis Barton (son of Hawkeye and Mockingbird) and Azari (son of T'Challa and Storm) are the new Avengers.

Thor is a mantle to be held, so no big deal. But I hope feminists realize this is a stunt. Movie Thor isn't going anywhere. Comic Thor will be back in under a year.

But is it TV/Movie board historical though?

As other have said, Thor was a frog at one point so this is not really a stretch.
The horse-man was Beta Ray Bill. I don't think he was actually Thor but was supposedly even more noble and bad arse than Thor and had his powers and appearance.

So the punishment is for Thor to be a woman? Yeah, big day for feminists. The character has been knocked down a notch.

I'm Thoroughly confused...

I can finally not feel weird about fapping to Thor.

It's the Twilight/Katniss crowd. That's all. They just say it's for "empowerment" and all of that other pseudo-feminist bullshite so they can charge people up and make them think it's for some noble movement, but it's just a play for that huge audience.
I promise you, the only noble movement will be this movie.
