The Pentagon’s Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency has announced the first successful live-fire tests of the military’s first smart, self-guided bullets.
In a video released by DARPA Thursday, Extreme Accuracy Tasked Ordinance (EXACTO) .50-caliber bullets maneuvered independently mid-flight to accurately strike targets purposefully offset from where the firing sniper rifle was aimed.

That's some sci-fi shite right there.

How does it know where to hit?
Lasers?

Every other country might as well just give up their military. We've basically wrapped this shite up.

Correct, they have to keep a laser on the target and the bullet senses it and adjusts mid-flight.

If we're just hearing about this now, we probably were using in in Nam

Thats freaking crazy to think that the bullet can read and react fast enough to change its flight path. Un-freaking-real.

I wonder if the target could be paint with a 3rd party laser, a la SpecOps paints a bogie/guy with a laser and someone takes him out from REALLY long range. I'm sure it will get to that.

I'm sure it does come from someone other than the trigger-man. It would hard to keep the crosshairs on someone through recoil... a spotter would be the one likely maintaining the laser.

Yeah, but a 50 cal bullet is going a hell of a lot faster than a missle with a much shorter duration from 'launch' to impact.

Agreed, the muzzle to turban ratios aren't even comparable.

The US wouldn't use it, libtards would cite unfair advantage

link doesn't say anything, which i guess i should have expected.

it's all physics, heck, the SR-71 flies faster than any bullet or missile and they get it to go where they want it to
