Meauxjeaux, I agree. It's the government that allows this type of behavior that is the root of the problem. That doesn't mean I can't get the red arse when it's flashed in my face.
Yeah, that's what's going on with the food stamp program right now.

So if they buy a $100 flatscreen at the pawn shop and pay $15/month for a data plan they should automatically be disqualified. I always love the hyperbole in these threads.
Right, because that's what's happening.

What if it was EBT cards in the truck? Would the affluent still show up and take that FREE offering? Diminishing status would prevent it, I think.

If you have a job and are on government assistance, you're first priority should be not being on government assistance, not an iPhone. If you don't see that, you're part of the problem.
The problem is that you are assuming that their first priority was to get an iPhone or that every person on government assistance situation is the same. A person with a smart phone in their hand could have been on Government assistance for 10 days for all you know, but since they had a dime a dozen smartphone, you have already made up your mind and put them in that box.
You have an image of how you think people on government assistance live and probably have never met or interacted with them first hand.
You would also have to go out of your way for that shite to be "flashed in your face". If that is the case then you are just pissing yourself off.

This guy gets it. I think most people aren't against helping people in need. It's the problem of a large portion of people in need become reliant on the system and never get off.
My mom was on food stamps in 1972 for 6 months. She was 19 with a kid. She was very embarrassed to have to depend on the government. The minute she could afford to get off she did and never looked back. Long story short she went to LSU and earned a degree in teaching. She ended up getting her Masters years later.
Bottom line if you can afford to have an iphone, new car, nail salon visits, and tattoo's don't ask me to pay for your food and your kids food.

Food Stamps, along with most forms of welfare should be used as a last resort. As in, "I can't afford to feed my family, we will literally starve to death if someone doesn't help us." Not to be confused with "I don't have a ton of money left after I pay for my Iphone and data package and flat panel television."

I have a great idea how a lot of people on government assistance live, and it pisses me off. And it should piss you off, unless you're one of the ones voting for a living.

I love that the OT has no problem with the state paying hundreds of millions of dollars in corporate welfare to the film industry because you can't even be bothered to learn how fully refundable tax credits work, but you're all ready to take up arms because you've created this delusion that all these greedy poor people are eating steak and lobster every night from Whole Foods.

So I was right, you haven't interacted with any of them before.
I also don't believe in people telling others what they need to be pissed off about, that's what cable news is for.

I have. My parents took the house I was born in and got it turned into secion 8 housing. I'm assuming that going over there and helping with maintenance through the years counts as "interacting". They were there, I talked with them. They were obviously on government assistance.
But no, I don't spend my free time picking up ladles at soup kitchens, if that's what you mean. My world is pretty much filled with people who take responsibility for themselves and provide for themselves. I don't believe any of my personal friends are on government assistance.
So why aren't you pissed about people using government handouts to afford themselves the same luxuries that you work hard for? Assuming you do work.

Because the people that I know or have known that were on Government Assistance, were not all out buying flat screens and iPhones like you seem to think they all do.
Considering what type of government money is thrown away on a daily basis, ya know, things that are in your face. I am not going to get worked up about people being provided with a means to get food.
Oh but since you saw someone with a smartphone, they're all bad apples I suppose.
