So they are giving you an option to get done quicker, you don't have to use it...

Isn't the point of a DMV Express office to get it done more quickly? So, is that like an express, express option?

I love it. I love the express pass at theme parks too. I would pay it at the DMV over most other places because that place sucks.

Time is money. People that have extra cash should be pleased they do this.

It's basically creating a second supply and demand curve where poor people get worse service.

Does anyone know if these outlets have been privatized?

I went to one and the working folks who had gone in on their lunch hours were thrilled. To them it was worth the money.

I'll also say that each and every desk was staffed, and people were being processed promptly. Whether they paid the extra or not.

I like the option. I did it the other day and jumped about 30 mouth breathing idiots in front of me. I will gladly pay the extra 14 bucks to be out of there quickly.

These express offices are privatized, I believe.

I guess they found a way to get more money to select campaign contributors, I mean contractors.

On the positive side, options are good. As long as the regular price version isn't worse then you could always just do things like before and pay the $14 to get ahead of the line. yeah, it's basically a tax but it also fits in nicely with the Two Americas theme.

I'll take the opposite approach. For every five minutes you have to wait, the DMV has to reduce your bill. After an hour wait, no charge. Start hitting the DMV in the pocketbook and something tells me they would streamline the process.

Why should government profit for a job that is expedited? Seems to me they could do that without the incentive, if they really wanted to.

Technically, yes. Statutory laws passed by each State. When you go to get a driver's license, you're signing a contract with the Office of Motor Vehicles. Does it violate BOR? Not so sure because we willingly comply.

Is it coercive? I think so. Should they concentrate on 'Drivers', meaning commercial. Seems if 'Public-Safety' is a priority, maybe the DMV/BRPD should concentrate enforcement on trucks- allowed 80,000 lbs limit. Momentum = 0.5MV^2. Plus, they are conducting commerce.
