I remember watching this congressional hearing about 10 years ago or so. They had some underling from Freddie/Fannie testifying, and he was trying to tell them that there was a huge problem looming on the horizon.

Maxine Waters got pissed and was like, "How dare you come here and spread lies like this!". Gregory Meeks was even worse. He acted like a straight up street punk, and told the guy that he should be charged with a crime for lying about the financial condition of Fannie and Freddie

I'm pretty sure those two idiots are still in Congress. There was a lot of blame to go around regarding the 2008 financial collapse.

Bottom line, Bush presided over a failed presidency.

Obama has been worse. MUCH WORSE.

Congressman Richard Baker who represented the La. 6th district was the chairman of the House's banking sub-committee. He was Fannie's and Freddie's biggest critic. He held hearings on them back in the early 2000's where he showed their liabilities exceeded their capital exponentially.

He told me he received threats from some civil rights type organizations when he revealed the idiocy of FNMA and Freddie guaranteeing the low income borrowers' loans.

I saw him in the BTR airport about 2 years ago and I asked him if he has said "I told you so" to his critics. He said he wanted to but has resisted doing it.

Don't you just love it when these "high moral" characters passively accept what they know is a clusterfrick because their paycheck depends on it?
If that's not bad enough, then they try and pass the blame off on you for allowing it to happen.

That is Richard Baker from Baton Rouge who speaks first.

ETA: That's a great video showing the implicit collusion the Dem congressmen/women had with Fannie and Freddie especially when they were criticizing the regulator who was exposing Fannie's and Freddie's risk.

And when the excrement finally struck the rotary blade air circulation device, the media and left moved Heaven and Earth to blame Bush for it - because it happened on his watch.

That big old wheel never seems to turn the other direction, does it?

None of what is being leveraged in these warnings and arguments adequately contends the notion that virtually nobody knew that the global financial system could potentially be brought to ruin.

Those that did shorted the market.

Kind of a fricked set of circumstances, which is what we've really been discussing, no?

Neutered regulatory arm, loose credit, rampant fraud - systemic failures abound.

ShortyRob,

Thanks for posting that video. That's the hearing I was talking about. Those Democrats who were playing politics all look like arse clowns now. I guess the reason nobody ever talks about this is because they were almost all black. God forbid the media would expose people like Waters and Meeks as the corrupt, stupid thieves that they are.

The left-wing nitwits like third leg need to be reminded of this video every time they throw out the predictable, knee-jerk response of "Bush did it!"

I don't know about that, but it's disingenuous to act as if the Bush administration didn't have a hand in the pot.

If we are going to lay this all at Obama's feet, Bush should share in the blame.

They're the same breed, different mask.

shite, it goes further back than those two. They're just the worst offenders.

Good thing I'm of low moral character and I get to blame y'all for everything that is wrong with this country since I've voted for no one currently in office and have only been able to vote in one election.

It feels good to be free from blame.

It feels good.

I get to bitch and not be a hypocrite also.

That's a stupid argument when Obama has racked more debit than all of the President's in history combined and he isn't even finished yet. Just imagine where will be by the time he leaves office. This Hussein care will destroy the country.
