You should stay up in Monroe. We're full up here. Already too crowded.

It was somewhat popular after 1/9/2012.

I mean, I'm not super familiar with mortgage banking or anything, but there are banks everywhere. The main industry in Lafayette is healthcare though. If you have experience, you could probably find something, but rumors of Lafayette "booming" are greatly exaggerated.

Got to be the most ignorant post I've ever seen. Post less.

I grew up there. Not a terrible place, just not my cup of tea.

There's plenty of opportunities for mortgage bankers. There's tens of banks there that have there production offices in the city.

Neighborhood wise: There's really only two options if you want your kids in public schools. Youngsville or the G3 area of Lafayette (Broadmoore, Alleman, Lafayette High district). If you can afford Tuerlings, STM, or Ascension you can live in just about any safe neighborhood.

I live in Duson (rural suburb of Lafayette) but I work in Lafayette and my family lives in Lafayette. I go to Lafayette pretty much every day for all kinds of things, as Duson is mostly farm-land and fields lol.

Overall, Lafayette is a great place to raise a family and the city is immersed in Cajun culture, which is a very unique and awesome culture. The food is out of this world: boudin, crawfish, jambalaya, gumbo, etoufee'... that's just the tip of the iceberg. The food in Lafayette and the surrounding area is simply incredible.

As others have mentioned, Lafayette is a booming city right now. Everywhere you look, new construction projects are going on. The economy is strong, and it shows in how many new businesses are coming to the area. ULL athletics have been great in all sports lately, so for a great college sports atmosphere, Lafayette definitely has it.

As far as the best location in Lafayette to live in, it's the south-side of the city. The suburbs of Lafayette like Youngsville, Maurice, Duson, Scott, Milton, and Broussard have some really nice neighborhoods that you can raise a family in. The city of Lafayette itself also has a lot of nice neighborhoods, but if you like the rural suburban life, check out one of those neighboring suburbs. Lots of great schools and lots of options all around.

Good luck!!

Don't know about Ascension or Tuerlings, but I doubt you're going to get your kids in STM unless they are star athletes. That's the only reason we started ours at St. Pius so they will be guaranteed a spot at STM. I'm assuming the OP is not catholic, so this will be another strike against you trying to get them in.
