Monroe v. Lafayette

My family and I currently live in Monroe and have for the past 11 years and we are looking into moving to Lafayette or the surrounding area in a couple of years - if not sooner. I've been in mortgage banking for the past 10 years and was wondering if it would be an easy transition to make. I would like to stay in banking because that is what I've done for most of my adult life, but I have a good deal of management experience in the business, so hopefully that will translate down south into most other industries. Question - will I need to look into another career in Lafayette or is their a market for mortgage banking down south?

Dude every other business going up in laf right now is a bank. Lafayette is booming more than 90 percent of the country.

Lafayette is an awesome town. There's a great public magnet high school (Lafayette High), elite private schools (St. Thomas Moore), fun nightlife, lots of festivals (Mardi Gras, Festival de International, Festival de Acadiana, Crawfish Festival, Cajun Dome Festival, ect). There's plenty of both family friendly and adult things to do including parks, historical sites (the Acadian Village, Vermilionville, ect), Minor League Hockey games, concerts at the Cajun Dome (practically every major music act comes through there on tour), nite town, the Station Bar in Broussard (if you love rock music, it's one of the best music venues outside of NOLA in the state), great restaurants, ect. It has everything you need in a town its size and less of what you don't (crime). It's a great place to live, and I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
I don't know about finding banking positions, but there are tons of oil & gas positions (administrative) out there as well as several large construction companies (Lemoine being the largest). It shouldn't be too hard to land on your feet.
You're going to want to live in Lafayette if you can afford it, Breaux Bridge or Broussard if you can't. In Lafayette, look into the old neighborhoods between ULL and Cajun Field. Lots of pretty old houses and shady oak trees. If you're a true baller, live in River Ranch.
Also, if you intend to be moving down there to stay, make sure you get a club membership at Red's. It's THE health club (like a really nice YMCA) in the city and will bring a lot of networking opportunities.

There are so many new banks throughout lafayette. You should be fine. Not to mention your children will have all of their teeth, if they haven't lost them already, you'll have drinkable water and you won't have to eat nutria any longer.

When I tell you almost every other commercial building in lafayette is a bank I'm really not joking.
Yes west bayou is old money. River ranch is pple in debt to their eyeballs
Plus you're 45 minutes from 30° 24' 43? N, 91° 11' 8? W

You will have to become Catholic and learn another language if you make the move.

Yep. You'll have to learn what weird phrases like "get down" mean.
