LSU's long term success has been a collective effort involving thousands of people. Hell, I'm partly responsible for having gone to games, paid tuition and fees and generally been supportive. McElroy hasn't intentionally done any of the the things that have added to LSU's success, so he's not someone whose opinion I care about.

Nick Saban was responsible for LSU's success when he was the coach at LSU.
Les Miles is responsible for it since he's been the coach.
Both have been wildly successful.

LSU is responsible for Saban's success every bit as much as Saban is responsible for LSU's. Saban would not be where he is today if he was puddling around in East lansing for another 5 years. LSu gave him the opportunity and all the resources in the world to establish himself, including a roster with a plethora of talent he inherited from Dinardo. I always found it odd that Saban gets 100% of the credit for the players he coached that were signed and recruited by Dinardo but Les seemed to get 0% of the players signed by Saban but coached by him. The hypocrisy of it all is astounding. And still, 10 years later, we have slapdicks saying LSU's success rests squarely on the shoulders of Nick Saban. Give me a fricking break. How well did that work out for Ron Zook at Florida, Will Muschamp at Florida, Larry Coker at Miami, Frank Solich at Nebraska, Bob Davie at Notre Dame, and so on and so forth. Yes, Nick Saban is a great coach, probably the best in the country and one of the best of all time, but to continue to act like LSU is what it is because of him, 10 years later, is such a joke. People seem to think Saban was as good as he is now when he was at LSU. He wasn't. Let us all be reminded that he had exactly one season at LSU where he lost fewer than 3 games.

"For real with this" as in understanding that there are many other people, along with Saban, who are responsible for LSU being where it is now?

Sure, but to say that one of the greatest coaches in CFB history wasn't instrumental, is retarded.
true, however instrumental and responsible are two separate things. In the time that Saban has been gone the program could have easily gone to hell in a hand basket. To say that he is responsible for where the program is at today is the same as saying as the program is completely self-sustaining...which is equally as retarded.

Again, you're reading too much into it. Get a grip buddy

If it were simplistic I don't think people would be thinking he meant that Saban still has a hand in lsu's continued success. Like are people being for real with this?
Did you read what McEalroy said:
quote:McElroy IS saying that Saban still has a hand in lsu's continued, "ongoing," and "sustained" success.
Former Alabama quarterback and current SEC Network analyst Greg McElroy said Nick Saban should be credited with LSU’s ongoing success.
McElroy spoke yesterday to our good friend Bo Mattingly, host of ‘SportsTalk with Bo Mattingly’, via 247Sports, and he expounded on this, well, funny notion.
“If you look at LSU, they’ve had sustained success since Saban left because he established that mindset,” McElroy said. “Les Miles obviously did take over that program and has done a terrific job in his own right, but once you establish that mindset and have the leadership that holds young players accountable, that success shouldn’t soon dwindle.”

has any coach who had two good seasons out of five ever been given so much credit for a fourteen year span of consistent achievement? the answer is no. so, forgive all of us who aren't going to take every possible opportunity to kiss saban's arse for pedantic comments that attribute our success to him.
btw: urban meyer won with charlie strong's and ron zook's players.

Does he give Saban credit for establishing the mindset of the Miami Dolphins too?

It's a round about way of saying Saban put LSU on the map.
Yes, he's responsible for where they are at now.
Some of you people are ridiculous.

Not sure why you feel the need to be so condescending. McElroy's quote is obviously a little misleading and people are (for the most part) just shedding more light on the matter and elaborating.

exactly. I'm glad Saban was here. He's right in his opinion, and I'm perfectly fine with that.
Thanks, Nick.

I'm not being condescending. It truly is ridiculous people are taking that statement literally.

it's ridiculous to take a commentator to mean what he said? should we listen to commentators, then pull back and consider the deeper implications and unstated meanings of their comments?
sure, taking a comment too literally is silly, but to claim that we should assume something different from what he actually said is bullshite armchair psychology of the highest order.

let's look at something else McElroy has said in the past:
quote:
Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy knows he’s not as good an athlete as Auburn quarterback Cam Newton. And McElroy is pretty sure he’s going to be waiting to hear his name called at the NFL draft long after Newton has been selected.
But McElroy thinks he’s more ready to play in the NFL than Newton is.
Asked on the Dan Patrick Show who’s better prepared to play in the NFL of the two of them, McElroy picked himself.
“I say me,” McElroy said. “Obviously, my talent level has a much lower ceiling than Cam. That’s fair, and I respect and understand that. But I don’t think I’m the only guy in the NFL that might have that same problem — I don’t think Peyton Manning is as athletic as Cam.”
McElroy says he has an advantage over Newton because he has much more experience playing in a pro-style offense, and that he’s better than Newton at reading defenses.
“As far as understanding and processing information . . . five years down the road will he be a more productive player than me? That remains to be seen,” McElroy said. “I think with my experience in the pro-style offense, my ability to drop back from under center, make checks from the line of scrimmage without looking at the sideline, all of those things play in my corner as far as being very prepared to make the transition to the next level.”
McElroy also confirmed he got a 48 on the Wonderlic, and he said NFL teams are higher on him than most people realize.
“I think I will get drafted higher than a lot of people suggest,” McElroy said.

Eh, big deal.
Is Saban not responsible for the Gump's success?

Just like Sabans success is because of Shula.

people that disagree with that, are just people that blindly hate Saban.
He's partially responsible, but this mindset garbage he said is just that, garbage. Also, didn't Saban take Dinardo's recruits and do the exact same thing Les did with Saban's, but even better?

Gerry Dinardo was the worst 10 years ago....until Saban started getting credit for LSU's revival after he went to Bama....then Dinardo all of a sudden became revered
Why is it so bad to say Saban won with other people's recruits (Dinardo, Shula), but you think it's OK to say Les won with Saban's?
