Nick Saban was responsible for LSU's success when he was the coach at LSU.
Les Miles is responsible for it since he's been the coach.
Both have been wildly successful.

has any coach who had two good seasons out of five ever been given so much credit for a fourteen year span of consistent achievement? the answer is no. so, forgive all of us who aren't going to take every possible opportunity to kiss saban's arse for pedantic comments that attribute our success to him.
btw: urban meyer won with charlie strong's and ron zook's players.

Eh, big deal.
Is Saban not responsible for the Gump's success?

Just like Sabans success is because of Shula.

who gives a shite what that spoiled little rich kid thinks, pretty sure a mediocre, washed up, backup qb wouldn't have his job if his dad wasn't the highest ranking Cowboy exec not named Jones

It's a moronic statement from a loudmouth gump homer. Once again designed to get clicks and attention.

Probably Germans...but Walter White says Saban responsible for McElroy's "success"

honestly, he's not really off base.
without Saban, the allure of coming to LSU would not have been established ahead of Miles. Simply from a talent reaping stand point.
That said, Miles deserves every ounce of credit for his record.

I can answer this for you guys. It isn'y Saban, and it isn't Miles; it's the decision makers who decided LSU football would be great and chose to deploy our capital on first class coaches and first class facilities. Long after Saban and Miles are gone from this life greatness will belong to those of spirit who reach for it, just as it always has. Saban and Miles are hired guns; we can always hire others. Greatness, for LSU football will always rise and fall on the expectations, committment, and audacity of its regents and the people whom they serve.

The comments below that article by someone called "devils advocate" are interesting. Not sure if he is the same guy that goes by that name on here but either way he is a stupid motherfricker. He states that Miles won a championship in 2007 with Saban's players and has won zero with his players. But at the sametime he gives Saban credit as having won the 2009 title with his recruits. Really? This dude believes this? Both won titles in the 3rd year with their team. So how does Saban get credit for recruits that were signed while he was coaching the dolphins? He must be one of the creators of Obamacare with thinking like that.

Little Nicky is responsible. He built the program back up and brought back the LA talent. Mike Archer left the local talent alone in the 80's and went for the big out of staters while those out of state programs plucked LA boys left and right. Add to that the disaster that was Curly Hallman and the quick decline of Dinardo and Saban WAS responsible for the success of the LSU program and Leslie has ridden that wave quite well. Leslie continued to keep the players in state and hired the best Offensive and Defensive minds possible. He is a good CEO coach, as Spurrier said, but I doubt his ability to actually coach X's and O's as evidenced by the amateurish clock problems and his inability to speak English.

Quote :LSU is responsible for Saban's success every bit as much as Saban is responsible for LSU's. Saban would not be where he is today if he was puddling around in East lansing for another 5 years. LSu gave him the opportunity and all the resources in the world to establish himself, including a roster with a plethora of talent he inherited from Dinardo. I always found it odd that Saban gets 100% of the credit for the players he coached that were signed and recruited by Dinardo but Les seemed to get 0% of the players signed by Saban but coached by him. The hypocrisy of it all is astounding. And still, 10 years later, we have slapdicks saying LSU's success rests squarely on the shoulders of Nick Saban. Give me a fricking break. How well did that work out for Ron Zook at Florida, Will Muschamp at Florida, Larry Coker at Miami, Frank Solich at Nebraska, Bob Davie at Notre Dame, and so on and so forth. Yes, Nick Saban is a great coach, probably the best in the country and one of the best of all time, but to continue to act like LSU is what it is because of him, 10 years later, is such a joke. People seem to think Saban was as good as he is now when he was at LSU. He wasn't. Let us all be reminded that he had exactly one season at LSU where he lost fewer than 3 games.

An argument could be made that Dinardo is responsible for LSU's success
This is true...It was that senior class that actually won the title in 2003. Saban was brought here with a .500 win % from Mich St and all of a sudden he's the best coach on the planet(so say) I look at Saban a lot like I look at Obama. If the media doesn't build these guys up so much does Obama ever win the presidency? And Saban brings a lot of top recruits because of this media hype also. Lets not forget Saban lost here to UAB and at Bama to UL Monroe. Not to mention to Sugar Bowl spankings at the hands of Okie and Utah lol. Also he couldn't break .500 in the NFL. I believe Saban pass through LSU at a time when our in state talent was the best anywhere and our success has as much to do with those guys than it does with Saban

Yes Nick Saban is the reason for starting the success at LSU, but in no way shape or form is he the reason for our continued success! For you people who are still on Saban's nuts, yes he did win us our 1st NC since the 50's but other than that he didn't have any better seasons than coach Miles. I think some were kinda worse coach Miles has never loss to UAB or a team like that. Just because Saban won NC's at Bama doesn't mean he would've here! Coach Miles is da man their is no one I would trade him for!
