Yeah, at the very least I'd expect Demps to turn Pierre Jackson into a 2nd and draft a SF or Patric Young.
That's the most I'm expecting.
We really need to move Gordon. I just don't see that getting done in connection with the draft.

How many times can that be said? Not often enough this week as the New Orleans Pelicans are preparing for Thursday night's NBA draft currently in possession of no picks.
The team's decision last June to trade away a pair of No. 1 draft choices in return for point guard Jrue Holiday has obviously created increasing fluidity in the Pelicans' draft-day plans and fired up the rumor mill that the team is aggressively attempting to trade back into this draft, perceived to be among the deepest in many years.
If that's the case, it could indicate several things: one, the team realizes that protecting this year's No. 1 that went to the Philadelphia 76ers only through the top five was unwise; two, it has identified a difference-making player they feel would enhance the chances of becoming playoff-relevant this season; or three, this could be a trade to acquire pieces to be part of another transaction.
If it happens, though, it merely reinforces the belief that the team paid too high a price a year ago to acquire Holiday.
But we already knew that.

Dominated last season, and many expect the 76ers to be good this year because of him.

Rumored Sacramento-Detroit trade is "dead" according to a team source. Talks were ongoing for a few days, but Detroit nixed it this morning.
Michael McNamara @McNamara247 · 28s
DETROIT said no to a deal involving Josh Smith heading out?? I will ask this again: What planet am I on??

I don't want to move Ryno unless it means Sandy is going too.

If it's true then either they are trying to get a better price, maybe Sacramento was demanding a future 1st, or maybe they found value for Monroe rather than just dumping Smith. Monroe and Drummond is a questionable long term match because neither plays outside of the paint.

Well it's a terrible deal for Detroit.

Josh Smith leaves.
Unless they are taking back a literal corpse making 50 million dollars for 3-5 years it would be hard to be a "TERRIBLE" deal for them.

What about dumping the non guaranteed contracts of Ely and Withey to get Asik, then turning Ryno into Barnes, Speights, and Ezeli. Also, resign Morrow.
Not sure if the Rockets would expect to get more back for Asik, or if GSW would agree to that deal, but I think those moves would be pretty good for the Pelicans.

I could go for non-guaranteed deals like Ely for Asik if we think Asik's the right fit next to Davis.
I'm less interested in the Anderson for Barnes, Speights, and Ezeli deal because, even bringing Morrow back, it leaves a giant hole in our offense.

There is no world where Jason Thompson and Jason Terry make Detroit better than Josh Smith short term or long term
Smith is a good player. He's flawed and overpaid, but he's been a good NBA player for a decade. I can easily see a scenario where SVG decides Smith is a better fit with Drummond than Monroe, especially if the trade return for Smith is utter garbage.

Not a legal trade. We don't have the cap space to absorb Asik and Houston wouldn't want any more money coming back. We'd really need to dump Gordon 1st.

Asik's cap value is roughly $8.4m, not the $14.9m he's actually being paid this year.
Considering what the cap got raised to, I think we could legally trade non-guaranteed contracts like Ely for Asik because we'd have enough cap space to make it work.

According to @Chad Ford - the Cavs got offered 4, 12 + Afflalo for 1 and didn't immediately say "Yes please?" That happened????

I was stuck thinking with this year's cap numbers, but you're right, there's no reason this wouldn't be an after draft trade.

No way the Cavs were offered that deal and didn't take it immediately.
They're floating bullshite offers out there to see if someone will actually bite.
I'd heard #3 and Thad Young as well as #5 and Favors as well as the Orlando deal. Orlando's deal is best by far if they really like Embiid.
