Late reply, but there are lots of student stories on the website. you can read what they had to say:

ACT701 McGee Question:
How are you all who have taken the final already done?! I am only half way through chapter 4. Not ready for Module 7 tests let alone the final too. I'm super jealous of you all as you can tell lol but seriously how did you make it happen? do i not need to read these remaining million pages? Help a tired soul out!!!!
P.S. congrats to those finishing up their final term. Espcially you @Jeaux. Your participation in this forum has probably helped more people than even you realize. THANKS!

End of MKT701 thoughts/review:
Such a relief to be done with that MKT course. It's legitimately a 2nd full time job. And even so, I'd wager I put in less time in it than many others. I was at my end with the busy work, playing make believe BS, and unrealistic time lines. The course is only getting worse IMO with the project. Just so much BS work with make believe company and product in a completely unrealistic time frame. Too much academic and isn't real world applicable in that time frame. As mentioned, the tests/readings are fine but James is completely oblivious to people having priorities outside her course with the project.
Part of her not recognizing that is that her graders do all her own leg work for her. What we were forced to do in that time frame would have been so much better in a team setting IMO. It simply wasn't using an EXISTING company this term. You were forced to create an entirely new company in an industry with little to no research available out there. I don't know what 30-40 pages of BS does to help students. Was so overwhelming to the point you just had to cram for exams due to project demands and I personally retained little. I'm sure I'll look at my notes down the road and more will return to me. If her point was to aid student learning over 7 weeks as she mentioned, the overwhelming nature of the project certainly wasn't the way to do it.
I wouldn't necessarily suggest taking something with MKT701 but if you have to take a course with it, try MADM720. Very straight forward course with K.Williams. I had to take it out of necessity to be done in Summer AP2. Wasn't ideal to pair anything with MKT but very happy I selected that course.
Congrats to all that finished MKT and those that are graduating.

If MKT701 continues to be run the way it was for Summer AP1...or gets worse...and you work full time, and have other things in life like a family, do yourself a favor and take it solo.
I took ACCT701 with it, and I'm currently not working full time. It was so much work that I had to completely neglect ACCT, and my grade in that class ended up being the one to suffer. MKT 701 is like having a full-time job in and of itself - not an exaggeration. If you're taking it for AP2 and planning any kind of vacation, seriously consider dropping either the class or the vacation.
@WDE251 Chapter 4 and 5 are pretty short. The hard part is dodging the land mine that is the assessment formatting, which still hasn't been fixed and people are still complaining about it. McGee is in denial that there is a problem. Pretty sure I'd be one letter grade higher if it wasn't for that issue and the week 4 disaster.

Agree 100% with you.
And from all indications by her during the course, this solar blanket project is returning Fall AP1. I hope those of you find more research out there than I did.

Thanks @GeauxUF I see that now too about the chapters. Made it through chapter 4 a lot faster than I thought. (Still confused about journaling though.) So I Spent the night studying for FIN701. Hoping my 10 questions are mainly qualitative. And about McGee, let's not discuss the test 4 debacle right now. I'm still SUPERRRR POd about it.
In general Friday cant get here fast enough! I need the week breather. 5 down 5 to go.

I am pretty stressed about the ISDS final. I have an A as of now but I can see that changing....

MKT701:
If this were my first class, I'd probably consider dropping out of the program.
I can't even imagine taking this course with anything else. I had a hard enough time keeping up between work and this one class. I like Dr. James, but she's out in la la land with her project and time expectations.
I'm just waiting for the 285pts yet ungraded to hit and am glad the BS is over. I may spend a couple hours studying for the last quiz just to learn the material, but it shouldn't matter for my grade.

It (MKT701) was my first class, and the takeaway for me at least was that I've gotten the heaviest and most annoying class out of the way first. Got my Part Two grade back already, and based on the grade, I think my grader just wanted to get it out of the way (not that I'm complaining at all).
Won't have to take the last test (though I'll read the material at least just to be familiar with it) to get an A for the course, so I'm happy about that at least. The overall material discussed in the course is definitely of good quality, but the project, as others have said, is just too much fluff.
Looking forward to Shaughnessy and Lin next session...will be a welcome change of pace from what I hear. :)

I'll be taking MKT 701 in the Fall. Is anyone here willing to send me the syllabus for the class along with the requirements for the various phases of the massive project? Outside of "a really long paper" I have no idea what it entails but would like to have an idea before walking into the course.

After hearing everyone complain about the course last semester, I was hoping they would incorporate student feedback and rework the class but it sounds like they are just doubling down on the frustrating parts. If that's their trjactory, I assume the course will be no different when I take it.

Anyone take the ACCT701 Final Yet that can comment on level of difficulty? I would really like to know how representative the practice final was to the real thing since I've put a lot of effort into studying that. I am fearful its not representative since its missing things like DDB...

My $0.02, don't kill yourself in re-reading a 1000+ pages. I've put my effort into creating a searchable word doc with pointers to the text of important terms and examples. It's 18 pages at the moment and I've been building this since day 1.
I'm more interested in how representative the final is to the practice test since I have spent considerable time on that.

open book, but we have zero expectation level as for the content and model of the questions. I need a 22/30 to maintain an A in the course. That's my focus right now. Think about this... every question on this final exam = 1% point of the overall grade.

I got my MKT701 project grade. Anything else coming in isn't going to change my grade, so that's all she wrote for this class and for my MBA.

quote:That is what is so insane to me. We spend the entire class writing papers and forum posts with a few Excel exercises and this exam is worth a 3rd of our entire grade. I'm not that stressed about it considering it's open book and we have 90 minutes to take it, but it's just a bizarre course design decision.

Not sure if this helps since I'm 2 days late on the reply. I took assessment 7 and did fine. The key here is to remember debits are always listed first. You will not see indentions for credits and debits. Chose the answer that has the component that requires a debit listed as the first item of the choice.
I'm wondering how similar the practice exam is to the actual final exam. The practice exam seemed too easy in comparison to some of the assessments (aka Module 4).
I am so ready for this class to be done!
