About to take ECON 705. I suppose I'm not much different than a lot of you, juggling a career and family in the midst of all this. I guess what I would like to know from those of you who have taken this class, do I really need to read that 700 page text or can I get by skimming the text and focusing on the vids? Will do what it takes but looking for some suggestions on efficiency. Apologies if this has been discussed in the past...

Look back a few pages and read through. Several have asked already I believe. I took it Summer AP2 and pulled out an A. It's not a bad class, but you're going to have to put in the work. Video Quizzes and Self Assessments should all be easy A's. He gives you a study guide to do before the End of Module Assessment. It's time consuming, but make sure you cput in the time and effort to complete it. It makes the EOM much easier.

TigerDragon435, you truly need to read the text and put the effort in for ECON705. I had a A and work full times as well as on call every other week at the hospital with young kids etc. The video quizzes and the the self assesments are easy and you can take the twice and you get the average grade. The End module assignment is the hard part and takes some time. I strongly recommend Zoom as he goes over examples of the assignment and gives out more information than he probably should at times but he does because people are putting the effort coming to zoom. Good Luck! You will do fine.

Thank you both, appreciate the guidance. I saw that there is a 50 student limit to the zoom sessions, were there any issues getting into these sessions? Need to show up early?
Also, since the zoom sessions are on Wed AND Thur, is it beneficial to attend both or does he go over the same material?

TigerDragon435,
I never caught a zoom session live but got all my questions answered from the recorded version he posts. I also never saw anywhere close to 50 students in those sessions but that was a year ago when class sizes were 200-250... now your class is probably double that size. If you have have a specific problem or issue, I would show up early to ask.

I'm new to the MBA program and would appreciate any .pdf versions of the text books if anyone is willing to provide them. Reply to my post and I'll send a PM as I'd prefer not to post my email.
Thanks in advance.

I am also new to the MBA program. I am pursuing a MBA with a HR concentration. I start AP 2 and am taking Marketing with James and Accounting with McGee. What classes are you taking? Any insight on these professors or classes would be greatly appreciated.

Tigers and Saints both win! I'm fired up enough to start reading Econ 705 early. Who's with me?

I read the first chapter of Econ Monday. It was a slog. Haven't had the desire to read chapter 2 just yet. Maybe later tonight.

@TigerDragon435
I took in Econ in summer AP2 and never had an issue with zoom filling up. I always attended both if i still had questions but would only attend 1 if I was confident in my answers on the final assessmen. Sometimes you will find yourself watching him going over problems you already understand which can be a waste of time but I would just use that time to look over things. The course requires a lot of excel which i had a basic knowledge of but quickly learned during his class. Thats where the zoom came in handy for me.

I took Econ in summer 2 also and I didn’t even know the zoom sessions where a thing. That was my first class so I didn’t know exactly what was going on. They must have not been advertised as obvious as the Vines zoom sessions.

Good luck to everyone starting AP2 today! Those of you in ISDS 705, how are you planning on approaching it?

Does anyone here have the two additional required texts that are not given to us for MADM 760?
REQUIRED: A.G. Lafley & Roger Martin, Playing to Win: How Strategy Really Works, 2013.
Harvard Business Review Press. Order from Amazon.
REQUIRED: Harvard Business School Case Study W16763: Netflix Inc: Proving the Skeptics
Wrong (Nov 18, 2016).
Thanks All!

You really should purchase both of those to get the most out of the class. Playing to win is a solid read and essential to the learning and flow of the class. If you didn't buy it yet, you need to asap because you are already behind.

@ Jeaux Cool
I was planning to do the chapter readings and to just follow his list of things to do. He provides the answers to questions he wants us to do so I will probably just read the questions and answers provided. I usually take notes as I read chapters but I do not think I am going to in this class. Some people say they did absolutely nothing but took the test using open book. Im scared to do that, plus I want to read and put some effort in, dont want to lose my 4.0 because i did not try. What about you?

For ISDS705 there is not a message board. It is unusual to me, as this will be the first class for me, where there is not any student to student or student to teacher interaction.
