For ISDS 705, are the exams open book and notes? Are you taking it with Lin?

The interesting piece of data that we don't have is whether the students struggling with basic math skills have taken the pre-requisites or were exempt from them due to their undergraduate major.

If the former, then the pre-requisites aren't doing the job. If the latter, then it would seem the undergrad biz majors need some remediation, too.

I see the pre-requisites as mandatory hand-holding, but the assumptions about who needs it (anyone with a non-business degree) may not be correct. There are many degrees out there heavier on math and stats than undergrad biz.

Unlock, you bring up a good point. We all just assume that those with an undergrad business degree are just sailing through the math. This may not be the case. The school could do an analysis of grades to uncover this. They may already be doing this and thus the reason for Friday's email.

IMO, regardless of undergrad a masters level student should not have any issues with the math in the program. I am in my last classes and really none of the math I have encountered has been much more than the basic maths taken as a freshman in college. I don't have an undergrad in business and enjoy the math heavy classes way more because they are much simpler.

I agree about the math issues. Although I'm only 3 years removed from undergrad, I've had no issues with any math so far. I guess that's the price you pay when work experience can be substituted for GRE score.

I'll try one last time since this board has moved quickly a few times; if someone could send me the FIN701 textbook I'd be very grateful.

Edit: Thanks, Socal!

I'm definitely ready for this Econ class to be over. I've enjoyed it overall but I'm ready for a change of subject. Should end up with an 'A' unless I totally bomb this last assignment.

Also, Danielle from LSUS returned my call regarding the changes to the program. She said they were considering splitting the pre-reqs up into individual, shorter classes, rather than having them combined like they are now. I told her I thought it was a good idea, specifically for the Econ / Stats pre-req.
