Saints IR promising rookies

We all joke about how the Saints throw a promising rookie on IR instead of trying to sneak him onto the PS every year. IF that were actually true and the NFL were somehow able to find out it they were not really injured and we were just stockpiling players...what would happen? How many suspensions and lost draft picks do we get this time?

I think we need to wait for the ruling and punishment from Loomis's wiretapping first then move on to the punishment from IR shenanigans

Is it really against the rules though?
I mean, how do you define injury?
Belichick fools with his injury list every week.

I doubt they can prove anything, but I'm sure they'll find evidence of wrongdoing written on a bar napkin with an alleged grand scheme that undermines the integrity of the National Football League.

Btw, I am sure the Saints are the only team doing this...

I doubt the NFL would really be able to prove this. If any team were hypothetically putting non-injured players on IR, they wouldn't be doing it against the players wishes. The players would have to agree to the designation or else they could just go blow the whistle and say either put me on the roster, put me on the PS, or release me.
I think these players are agreeing to the designation to get paid for a redshirt year to improve their chances next year.

You're right. But how would they prove it. If the players agree, then they would say "yeah, I'm hurt". And obviously the team wouldn't incriminate themselves. So there would need to be a whistle blower of some sort.
I doubt this is a big deal to anyone. It's not like we are stashing players that are in high demand.

medical records would show if someone is actually injured

That doesn't matter. Remember bountygate?

For example, take Mark Ingram (and forget for a second all the bitching and complaints about him). He's a pretty big, physical back who ran with power in college. Early last season, he apparently had a foot/toe injury, something mild enough that he got past the trainers and team doctors (because he wanted to play through it). Nothing, apparently, so serious that you'd have the coach or front office say "you're hurt, you HAVE to sit". But the guy was ineffective, no power at all... remember the Tampa game where a corner stuffed him 1 on 1.
Look at later that season, Dallas game on... he might not always have made the best cuts, but it would take 2-3 players to wrap him up, and a lot of times he'd still be upright when the whistle blew. There was a clear difference.
Let's say you get a player losing effectiveness like that, but instead of a 1st rd pick counted on to start, he's a marginal roster player, one who won't see the field that much even if healthy. You don't see anything clear on the x-rays, but you know the first 2 weeks of camp he was turning heads, and now he's crumpling on contact... you can IR him if you choose. You don't HAVE to cut him, or keep him active.

True. Hell, all ESPN has to do is say it, and we've already lost in the court of public opinion (wiretapping). It's not like they'll make a point to retract it or make a story out of it when it's proven to be false.

The Saints aren't the only team that does this.

While true, that argument didn't help us at all with the Bountygate BS.

Bountygate is over with, why even bring it up again this season
Posted on 6/20/14 at 12:12 pm to tzimme4
Because it's already been brought up in this discussion. Plus, pretending it never happened doesn't mean it didn't.

It doesn't have to be bad. I don't think there is anything wrong with putting a guy on IR who is expected to only miss a week or two. Sometimes, the demands of fielding maintaining a 53 man roster force you to put a guy on IR when otherwise you would not.

That and because, as stated above, they were never proven. Just speculating
