I'm not putting this on the soccer board, because I don't post there. DWI.

This ws staggering to me. I knew that the WC was obviously watched across the world, but the fact that each ball represents 1 million people is incomprehensible.

Considering the NFL is pretty muched only watched in the U.S., the viewership for the Super Bowl is more impressive.

For the World Cup to have a similar rate of viewership throughout countries where soccer is the most popular sport, there would have to be at least 2 billion viewers...

Not surprising at all futball is the most popular sport on the planet. Sorry if most on here don't get that. It's truly a universal sport.

World cup ain't no joke. I'm excited.

Also, the watch parties are great if you live in an international city. I went to one for Sweden last weekend at the Clevelander and will go to several during the WC. Doesn't matter what country. They throw down and sing and chant for hours on end.

It's really fun stuff. One watch party for one game with lots of people from both countries is more fun than a superbowl party with all the singing and craziness. And you get dozens and dozens for a month with the WC.

soccer is the most popular sport because you can be dirt poor and still get into it- and most of the world is poor as shite.

I was expecting the OP to be a pic of an "average Joe" American and a pic of a flaming queer.

Without reading through this thread (I'm sure it has been covered already), I call bullshite on 1 billion people watching the WC.

No way 1-in-7 people in this world watch soccer.

Think about all the old arse, 90 year old senile folks out there. They ain't watching the WC. Think about all the women out there, majority of them don't give a frick either. Think about all the poor folks out there living on the streets of Detroit, Guangzhou, Mumbai, etc etc. These folks don't care about some game, they care about getting their next meal, or next high. Does India or China even have a team?

No way 1-in-7 watch the WC. That number just isn't realistic. 1-in-15 I might believe......maybe

Wow that's amazing I would have never guessed that the viewing population of the world would be greater than that of the US.

Did no one read the top of the chart? 2 / 3 of Americans won't watch the World Cup. (I'll be a part of that 1/3 that does watch it)

I don't see why some people (in either camp) can't just accept that it's extremely popular around the world but not so popular here.

As John Oliver recently put it. To most Americans soccer is just that sport that you pick up your 10 year old daughter from, but for everyone else it is a religion.

Who cares? Let people enjoy whatever sport they want to enjoy. Do you think the Indians and Pakistanis care about who else watches cricket?

That photo is incredibly stupid. American football is popular in only one country. Soccer, being the poverty sport, is played and watched all over the world.

Who cares. Cricket is the second most popular sport in the world and less than 1% of Americans have ever even seen 20 seconds of a game.

What else do you expect to see?

- 1 professional (American) football league that contains 32 teams.
- 125 FBS Football teams

- Just in England there are something like 300 professional soccer teams.

You just compared 1 game to 63 games.

Wc average viewership = less than 15,000,000/match

For reference, Sunday night football averages 21million viewers.

Suck it, soccer.
