Exactly, just take a look at Kevin Vizard and René Bajeux. Both have failed with restaurant venues.

Damn very surprising news but I can definitely see them not turning a profit

I guess they couldn't get Nicolas Cage to pay for that window he broke. Joking - sad news.

that GQ article that came out at the time is priceless
ETA: in case anyone wants to read it GQ: Nic Cage will ruin your dinner

I'll say that once when we were there the door to the kitchen slid open and some of Chef Scott's expletive laden tirade came out as the waiter walked in.
The wife and I found it somewhat humorous and she made some quip towards it. The bartender, with a somewhat cracked smile, just remarked, "Chef is very passionate about his food" and went on her way.

At least for the past 4 or so years, he has not been worth the exorbitant cost.
I went to Stanley! over the weekend, and paid over $15 for an oyster po-boy (no sides, naturally) that is literally a half po-boy anywhere else.
Boswell takes the half portion, cuts it down the middle, and then passes this off to the tourists as a full size sammich.
If the gumbo there wasn't so excellent, I don't think I'd be back.

Had my rehearsal dinner there when the front room was a private room. I'm a bit sad here, even though I was disappointed the last time I ate there, which was like six years ago. I guess that's saying something.

My wife collects the antique oyster plates. She also has a lot of those like Stella which are Oysteria and made in NO by Leslie Massony. She's a talented artist. I've seen them used in Emerils as well.

In my humble opinion, you shouldn't cry over it. There are several restaurants in the city that serve better food without the pretentiousness or cost. Honest to God, I thought the room was stuffy, the staff so-so and the food good . . . I mean just that . . . good. Not spectacular. Not fantastic. I eat out a lot and it good places. I never got the overwhelming love for !Stella! . . . or however the exclamation points are supposed to be place. Stanley obviously makes money. Stella did not.

Well, let me say that my lukewarm attitude has nothing to do with not being adventurous when it comes to dining. I like to have the boundaries pushed . . . if it actually tastes good.

Really goes to show how hard the Nola market is. I get asked all the time from people outside of the state about how many new restaurants open up. I have to tell them they don't realize how many fail.

I walked by there tonight around 7 p.m. It was weird, because I made a point to look in and see what was going on. There were several guys back in the kitchen and one family dining in the restaurant. Doors were locked and it was obvious that they were shut off to the public... but I kept wondering who that family was. Just a normal looking group of 6... waiting on the whole kitchen to fix their meal.
That's some prime real estate. It'll be interesting to see what becomes of it. I never ate there, but everyone I talked to who did absolutely loved it.

I was just wondering days ago why there had not been any mention of Stella in many months on this board. I never made it there. Sad.

quote:I can attest to that. I haven't been back since he went prix fixe, mostly because I'm not a dessert person, so why pay for that course? I'll take two apps and an entree or an app and two entrees over an app, entree and dessert anyday. Stella! used to be in my regular rotation, but the prix fixe configuration sort of shut me out.
They lost my business when they went with the pre fixe menu
