For now C-USA offers a much superior bowl and TV deal over the sunbelt. Their contract comes up after 2016 I believe.
If that contract comes up light, which it may, that's when ULL needs to be ready and that's why I say get relationships with those C-USA west teams. La Tech did a good job with that when they were in the WAC.

CUSA still offers more in terms of television money and national perception, even if it's based more off of history than current standings.
Right now, the TV money is a little greater, but after the contracts get re-worked it may not be worth the "price of admission". If ULL doesn't get an invite for 5 years, the climate 5 years from now could be very different from today. Signs are pointing to a weaker TV deal next contract negotiation for CUSA.
Also, play off money matters now almost more than TV deals to G5 schools.

TEch, USM, Rice, UTEP, and UTSA.
4 of those 5 would be worthwhile in trying to reach out and establish a relationship with.
I'll let you guess which would be the one to act like a horse's arse.

Which is why AAC will focus on one of the Georgia schools, with their large tv markets.

Aside from Tulane who else is leaving CUSA?

Is Houston leaving?
Apparently they already left

LOL
Isn't their problem with Monroe?
All I know is if the Wave were still in C-USA I'd be begging for an airport meeting.

perception. Who would you rather play against App state or USM, Latech or USA?
I'll take USM and USA. You are severely underestimating South Al's athletic program as a whole.

Be careful about moving up conferences, ask TCU how thats going.

I believe we've actually had a pretty decent relationship with Tulane in recent years, so I agree with that.

TCU got ~$800k in conference tv revenue while a member of the MWC. They're due $11 million from the Big 12 this year.
I'm sure if I asked, they'd shove a few hundred dollars in my mouth and tell me to GTFO.

So you want your schools goal athletically to be to make money, not win ranked as high as possible?

In C-USA, the politics toward the end was basically Tulane and Rice and to a lesser extent Tulsa and UTEP, versus the rest of the league. USM would/should have been with us, but they were undergoing administrative transition and had some real (or unreal) financial issues so they went with the flock (but they've seen the light now). The future was toward the west. But, outvoted.
And honestly, forgetting which football team is better (and that ebbs and flows anyway) any reasonable look at the demographics of the Ragins and Lafayette makes them a prime choice as a small/mid market team.
But as I see it you guys still have your top 2 rivals in your league: USA and Ark State. Boss that league, develop relationships with the schools that matter for your future( my list above; plus you could add Houston, SMU and continue to work with Tulane too) and see the outlook in 3 years.

South Alabama over Tech?
Your blind hatred for Louisiana Tech is showing.
South Alabama won two games in a dog shite conference. Their basketball team was decent, but it isn't even close to where Tech is right now.
I'm all down for a discussion until people start making ridiculous remarks such as this one.
Blind hatred? I don't see how you could interpret it as hate. Someone posed a hypothetical, and I gave my opinion. It's just one Cajun fan's opinion, don't get so defensive about it.
3-4 years ago? Maybe I would have said I'd take LaTech over USA.

Had my schedules wrong. A 6 win season does not put you on par with a program that was ranked in the top 25 and knocking on the door for a BCS bowl bid just two years ago. Yeah we had a down year, but Tech lost more players than any other team in the country going into this past season. Everyone knew it was going to be rough.
Basketball? You made it to the CIT in 2013 (not really impressive) and lost to a putrid Tulane team. Tech spent most of the season on the cusp of the top 25. Beat the #5 seed in the NCAA tournament, Oklahoma on the road in Norman. Tech was about five minutes from being in the NIT final four. How does your CIT season compare to that?

If I'm the president/chancellor of a university and someone walks into a room with a check with $800k and one with $11 million, I'm taking the 11 million (which will shoot up to around ~20 after the next 1-2 years). Pumping that into upgrading facilities and student athlete amenities in order to attract better athletes, and taking steps to win ranked as high as possible.
If you don't make that decision, please avoid making any further decisions in life.
