I've raised 4, and coached for as long as I can remember. Kids that age don't think like adults and they make stupid decisions. But nothing in the ballpark of plotting a murder and trying to carry it out. That has nothing whatsoever to do with maturity. That's a whole different level of evil.
Those kids knew what they were doing was wrong. I get being young and stealing something, or drinking, or smoking. But this? They have severe issues. And I'm not sure they'll ever be normal.

stupid mistakes are one thing. plotting something like this and then carrying it out is not a mistake. it was planned and followed through.

so you hang out with 12 year olds who plot and carry out something like this?

Reminds me of Leopold and Loeb...they did it to see if they could get away with it.

Sounds like the ring leader is probably a sociopath; and there ain't no fixing that.

How does one survive being stabbed 19 times? Did the little shits use a roofing nail?

Can you break them down for us NoHo?

Sounds like you and I have about the same amount of time and experience in dealing with kids that age. And once again I agree with what you're saying. Kids that age cannot think and reason like we can. Having said that, I am not so sure though I'd call these girl's evil on the same level I would an adult who did these things. I think they fall more along the lines of mental sickness. And sadly, I agree with your final statement in that I don't think they will ever be normal. Thus I'd say they probably need to be locked up the rest of their lives.

I'm not insinuating anything. you have a kid that age, right? how many of his friends or classmates have you been around who plot something like this? I'll guess not many if any.
it's a special circumstance, and I think they should be tried as adults. at the very least, they should be in a mental institution for a long long time.

There is a movie about a very similar situation

They should be charged as adults.
Not that big a deal, though. Bitches get crazy leniency, come sentencing time, whether they are 12, 32, or 52.
I wouldn't be the slightest bit surprised for them to be charged as adults, convicted, and get out before their 18th b-days.

Sorry, I was actually posting that to say "no, I do not know any kids capable of this type of thing". Guess it came across wrong.
I'm basing my statement solely on my on experience in dealing with my son and the other kids his age. and from my experience the average 12 year old is not an innocent angel any longer but from a maturity standpoint they are still very much children.
The sad thing is that that many 12 year olds nowadays are exposed to things on a daily basis that their 12 year old mind is simply not ready to deal with. Coupled with this, the epidemic of shitty parents is only getting worse. What this leads to is kids that are getting their first exposure to things like sex and violence are doing so without the benefit of a good parent to be there to teach and guide them.

what will that solve? I prefer not to live in a society where we gas 12 year olds to death.
Well then we'll slit their throats and call it a day. Hell we don't even need to waste taxpayer's money on it. Just use the knife they tried to kill their friend with.
These girls don't have mental health problems. They knew exactly what they were doing. They just failed to kill her. This world is better off without them. Mental illness is becoming a crutch for those who engage in a crime fully aware of what they are doing and it's getting annoying.

it's important for people to remember that these are connected. kids exposed to violence/sex on tv don't typically go crazy if they have good parents who care about them and are able to teach them to differentiate between tv/video games and real life.

If one is okay with trying them as an adult because they premeditated the action months in advance, would you feel the same way if instead of stabbing another girl 19 times they met up with some sick man for sex? With the same length of time before actually doing it.
They premeditated it, right? Does that make it okay? What makes killing a person less of a choice than having sex with a person?
I don't think you can say one is okay and the other isn't. Both require the age and life experience to fully know that you just don't have in 12 years on the planet.
I'm just glad the victim survived.
