She seems happy, you're just being an a-hole about this.

I am not the one who said that, it was a remark on a FB post. It does seem like more kids get new cars now compared to when I was 16.

it's a given, the kids don't talk about wondering or hoping to get a car, it's "I wonder what kind of car I'm getting"

My first car was a white 4 Runner of that era that I shared with my dad. I didn't get one of my own until I had been driving for over a year. That was a Hyundai Sonata - awesome first car.

How the Hell is getting any kind of car on your 16th birthday "trashy"?
People come up with some stupid shite.

I don't plan to give my children new vehicles. Hoping to time it so that my wife or I can buy a new vehicle when they turn 16 and they'll get the hand-me-down.
Only thing trashy about this scenario is the shower sandals
and the fact that the combined cost of the vehicles in the pictures cost more than the house. Not that I even think living in a trailer makes you trashy. Stupid financial decisions are another story though.

I got a shitty, gold 1996 Saturn in 2006 when I turned 16. I would've loved to get a 4 runner

Awesome gift. Plus it's big enough that she can do something stupid and probably survive.

No giving a used vehicle isn't trashy. High chance they wreck it.
The bed sheet over her head was a little unnecessary.

Nah dude...everyone must keep up with the Joneses for fear of what people will think of them and/or call them trashy.
It's better to be up to your eyeballs in debt and work until you die than to dare drive an older car or live in a modest house for fear of what others may think of you.

Just showing her how her future husband will look when he enters the bedroom.

Is it trashy to give a 16 year old a used car? Are you kidding me?

I didn't have a car until I was a Sophomore in College in 1995.
Dad bought me an 82 Toyota Tercel Hatchback for $100 and I was the happiest mofo on earth that day. Spent the entire weekend with him cleaning it up and getting some cosmetic parts for it. Drove the shite out of that thing for the next several years.

I didn't get car until I was 18. It was old and crappy but I was happy to have a car.
I was just thinking that if that is what kids thought now, I should start preparing my daughter for disappointment because she will be getting an older car until she is in college.
Some kids at her school are getting brand new luxury vehicles for their bday and I think that's crazy.

it's way out of hand, combo of kids shaming the parents into getting them a car, and parents not wanting to lose face with the "Jones", by purchasing a substandard whip

What's wrong with a used car for a 16 year old?
