Been looking for a new grill. Buddy of mine has a six year old Weber genesis his wife bought him that he doesn't use. Says he likes using charcoal. Its dirty from sitting up but shows no sign of corrosion. What says the OB, buy used and how much would you pay?

Depends on the model...a third to half the cost of a new one, comparable.

Six year old gas grill? $75 tops unless it is one of the very expensive models, then maybe $100 tops. You may have to replace parts, which are pricey. I have a seven year old Weber and I wouldn't pay more than $50 for it because it has been used a lot.

Pics? Six years is pretty old for any grill, unless it's seldomly (less than 4 times a year) used and kept in a climate controlled area. Things rust, corrode, wear out, etc. We would really need to see pics for a good assessment. What is the condition of the grill grates, burners, and flavorizer bars? Based on my experience, these are the parts that will need to be replaced at some point. Assuming overall condition is excellent - $300, better than average - $200, average - $100.

I'd offer him $100 to get it out of his way, then see if he counters. He probably wouldn't get over $200 on Craigslist, so you get a little break for convenience sakez

My older model Weber Genesis is a good 15 years old. It's a quality grill and has held up well. I use it regularly and have replaced the starter, flavorizor bars, grates and burners a few times. They are pricey but are a lot cheaper than buying a new grill every few years.
You're getting a great deal at anything under $300 if it has only been lightly used and kept out of the weather.
