Hakeem at $1 is a no-brainer.

I'm late to this party, but I'll mix it up a little from what I'd traditionally pick and go:

PG: Stockton (2) - pure passer, won't need shots.
SG: Jordan (5) - GOAT.
SF: Bird (4) - great at everything, including intangibles.
PF: Dirk (2) - spreads the floor.
C: Shaq (2) - arguably most dominant C ever.

Total (2+5+4+2+2): 15

ETA: Dream at $1 is definitely a steal, but I feel like Shaq at $2 is as well.

What's funny is that you could do a team like:

Stockton (2)
Drexler (2)
Durant (2)
Duncan (3)
Wilt (3)

..and not only compete with everybody, but still have $3 left over for a new arena or some such shite.

I didn't read the thread past the first page, but I'd bet that lineup wouldn't lose.

I feel like I wouldn't really want Jordan and Lebron on the same team. Defensively it would be downright unfair, but I feel like I'd want more of shooter at SF if I have Jordan at SG.

I still think the hardest part of this challenge is deciding if $2 shaq is more valuable than $1 Hakeem.

I'm late to this party but I thought this was relatively easy when you consider how they would play together and what they would so on the floor.

PG- Stockton: unselfish, extremely smart, will run your offense perfectly and can play defense

SG- MJ: no need to explain, dude can flat out score the basketball. He would be slashing and attacking the basket, plus Stockton would be able to get him open jumpers for days. Also he's a world class defender

SF- Lebron: Again a no brainer, would fit in so well here. You can rely on him to score when needed, but he also has no problem distributing to the other guys and making the extra pass. He and MJ would be a great team thanks to LBJ's unselfishness. Also a world class defender who can guard every position.

PF- Dirk: Someone on this team has to be able to shoot, he would spread the floor for MJ and Lebron, plus he can get down in the post if we need it at times. Not the best defender, but he makes up for it.

C- Hakeem the Dream: For $1 that's a no brainer, he'll protect the paint on defense and imagine the easy looks he'll get playing with Stockton.

2+5+5+2+1=15

Agreed.

The good news is that you can go Dirk/Shaq, which would compliment each other nicely...but you could also do Duncan/Olajuwon for the same price. That was what my decision came down to, and I really feel like as different as those two combinations are, they both have massive upside.

With Jordan's penetration, Dirks spacing the floor and rebounding, Bird doing everything and knocking down the three, shaqs low post scoring and Stockton as the court general you have arguably the bestset of skills enmeshed with one another.
That doesnt even take into account the pick and roll with Stockton and Shaq or the pick and pop with bird or dirk. They would be unstoppable offensively in the full or half court. Youd also have the best defensive SG, PG and center in history. Lastly youd have 2-3 of the most clutch cold blooded players to ever bounce a ball. No other combinations could beat that starting 5 in a 7 game series.

The more i think about it the more I agree with you. I think MJ and LBJ are no brainers with either Shaq or Olajuwon. Can we just make Olajuwon a PF and have both??

Garnett at $1 is a Hakeem level steal. He was every bit as good as Duncan during his Minnesota heyday. He was putting up 20/10/5 for a few years there. Just nuts

I actually really like Shaq and Barkley together because Shaq could dominate offensively if it gets fed to him, and both would absolutely shut the paint down. Barkley may be short, but he is fricking solid. And sure, Barkley won't be able to space the floor like Dirk or Duncan could, but it's not like he'd be sitting under the basket.

I'd sacrifice a more offensive PF for an elite defender and rebounder when I still have some combination of MJ, Durant, LeBron and Shaq for offensive firepower.

This game would be way more fun and interesting with $10 to start.

Being able to get MJ/Lebron/Shaq takes the fun out of it.

Making it $10 would really make you think about whether to take 1 guy like MJ/Magic/Lebron with other "lesser" guys, or to spread it out more.

good point, since MJ and lebron are almost no brainers, and by default your third option is shaq. and that leaves a combo of walt frazier, john stockton, kg and nowitzki
