Seems like tyrion is the only one that thinks to do that.

Ned Stark was kind of a tard. I thought his decision making earlier in the series made that clear.

He confessed
ETA also this
If it was someone other than Sean bean playing the character, his perception would be way different. Him and his wife barely had half a brain between them

why didn't Ned Stark ask for a trial by combat?
How well do you think that would go with a shattered leg and all?

Well.... Before that he could have opted for trial by combat.

Yeah... Because tyrion always fights his own battles and doesn't look for a champion

Well he was stabbed in the leg and had barely ate/drank the past couple days and would've fought the Moutain.....wouldn't of ended well
I don't think you can use a champion unless it's just a laughable affair (like an imp fighting the Moutain). I doubt they would give the same benefit to a former soldier

Ned at 25% vs the mountain has a better chance than Ned's neck vs Ice

This. He could barely walk let alone fight. Even in his prime, Ned was never known for being an exceptional swordsman. Who would have championed him? His guards were all killed. Lord Beric had already been attacked by the Mountain. He would have had to call someone from the north and cersei would never have been patient enough to allow that.
He confessed because he was told that he would live out his days at the wall i he did so. He would never be more than a couple nights' ride from his wife and children, he would serve with his bastard son and his brother, and he would see his son inherit Winterfell while still being able to give Rob counsel if sought. Plus, he'd be serving under Jeor Mormont, a close personal friend.
The wall really wasn't that bad of a fate for Ned Stark.

Which would be who?
All of his allies were either fled, dead, or a 1000 leagues away.
And I think I stand with Ned on that front of the honor code: he would frown against sending someone else to risk their lives for his sake.
Who can stand against either Jaime or Gregor?

Ned Stark was moral, righteous, and strong. He was a great leader, general, husband, father, and friend.
He was also not the smartest guy when it came to personal decision making

Because they would have granted it to him immediately, no one would have stood in for him, and he would have gotten killed with his shattered leg. Barristan is the only possible person who would stand for Ned, and he had left the city and was wanted as well.
Plus they would have killed Sansa as retribution for even asking such a thing.

Ned was given the option of going to the Wall. Joffrey broke his end of the deal though and just lied to Ned. If you lose a trial by combat, it's guaranteed death, no wall or other punishment.

Because Tyrion had been socializing with a cutthroat sellsword he knew would fight for him, and the second time he did it to simply spite his father and ruin the name of House Lannister.
What motive does Ned have, and who would fight for him? Barristan may have, but he's been dismissed and is wanted as well, and the next person who would fight for him is 1,000+ miles away. Why would Ned ask for such a thing when it would endanger his daughter's life and the Wall wouldn't be all that bad of a fate for Ned since he'd still be in the North and regularly hang out with his brother and son?
