I've talked to some liberals who said they would gladly trade in roe vs wade in exchange for overturning citizens united.
It varies.

Um, I'm pretty certain it's way more important to those on the right.

To understand my question in the OP, imagine the law were reversed. Would abortion be a bigger issue to those on the left or those on the right? That may have been a better way to pose my question.

I think the number of people who are passionate about it are about even on both sides, with a very uneven geographic distribution.
It's not even in my top ten issues. I'm intellectually pro choice, and I'm pro choice because it pisses off the fundies. But it doesn't affect me directly like a lot of other issues do.

Any explanation I would offer would likely not satisfy you. By the same token, the anti-abortion, pro death penalty people are a mystery to me, their rationalizations notwithstanding.

Yet you oppose the death penalty. I just don't get some people. I really don't.
Even if you disagree with their perspective, it's important to permit yourself to step into it long enough to rationalize how your opponents think. Until you really understand them, you can't effectively argue against them.

I support a woman's right to choose 100% but I think the assault on voting rights is just as important. I gave up on meaningful gun control or Universal health Care.

In their defense, if you genuinely believe a baby is being murdered are you not obligated to place a heavy emphasis on that issue?
Absolutely, and it was not a criticism of them for it being their #1 issue.
Though I lean left on most everything else, I'm actually against abortion. It's just not something that's very high on my list of important issues.

Let's be real about this: the GOP/right wing folks (for the most part) want to get rid of abortion under any circumstances, but when these kids are born, it's "you're on your own".
It makes no logical sense. Can't have your cake and eat it too.

I am sure many here would like to believe that it is.

Is abortion the single most important political issue to those on the left?
No, and this is from someone who knows quite a few liberals.

If it's not the most important issue to you, what is?
I used to be a liberal (and I still lean left on some things), but at the time, I was pretty big into pro-government intervention/regulation into the economy. Even gay rights (and certainly abortion) wasn't that concerning to me at the time.

i oppose the death penalty soley on the reason that our justice system is very flawed and there are to many death row inmates who are exonerated later.
