CC Permit Holders - New LA Bill Regarding NICS
Posted on 5/14/14 at 7:37 pm

So, I didn't realize this was in legislative session but was brought to my attention by a fellow instructor.
" This bill changes the background check mechanisms for a concealed handgun permit so that it complies with ATF requirements so that Louisiana can receive a waiver to performing a NICS check for firearms purchases. It also requires the state to apply for that waiver from the ATF.
This means, assuming the bill is signed by the governor and that ATF grants the waiver, that Louisiana firearm purchasers who present a Louisiana concealed handgun permit won't have to go through a NICS check at purchase.
I assume there will be some action required of current permits already issued - either existing permits won't receive the NICS waiver or the state will need to re-process the background checks for the existing permits."
It passed the House with 37 Yays, 5 Nays, and 3 Absent
Here is the bill information:

Nice time to get that lifetime permit.

Mississippi has this in place and it definitely saves some time when purchasing firearms.

Also, saw on State Police Facebook page the other day that a passport photo is no longer needed when getting your CC Permit. They now get the digital image of your drivers license and use it.
No fancy link.

6.5 months and still waiting on mine

My permit has my original address on it. I bet they don't take it. I've submitted the form every time I move but yet don't send you a new one.

6.5 months....in LA ?????? You must have some demons in your closet. It took me exactly 30 days to get mine and that was 1 month after sandy hook when everything was crazy. Plus I forgot to announce an MIP.

I need them to pass that sbr bill that allows ccw permit holders to own sbr without going through the feds

that'll never happen
SBR is federally regulated
ATF is going the other way on that issue
just got my renewal the other day, 4 weeks from application

Yup, every time I've called back, they always tell me the Sgt is behind 200 applications. The first time they said that was in January. She doesn't even have to do that much. How can you be so behind?

I agree.
I would LOVE for SBRs and suppressors to not be class 3 but I don't know if we'll see it anytime soon. And I could be dreaming but I think Montana or one of the Dakotas may already have something like this in the books.
The ATF is just like any other incompetent government agency. Did you hear about the Walther that was sent over to be examined by the ATF? They disassembled the pistol and couldn't put it back together so they sent it to Walther in pieces and forgot some of the parts! And these are the people deciding that 7N6 is now all of a sudden armor-piercing.

Yep. Just bought a XDS from a dealer on monday in GA. Just showed them my WCL and they skipped the whole background check and saved me $5.

You have to pay for a background check? Only time that happens is when I order a gun offline. I wonder how that would affect the process. If I get a gun shipped to my FFL, he cant charge me for a background check if I don't need one. Haha.

So is marijuana, guess Colorado didn't have a problem going around federal regulations. States can pretty much pass whatever they want.

Took me 10 months last year. Took 6 before they even did the background check so it's slow. Then it pulled something that shouldn't have been there and I had to prove it (it was minor and easy to do).

My record isn't squeaky clean, but I provided all of the minutes from each court date, and haven't been convicted of anything in 12 years

Mine was other than a divorce and I provided everything in great detail (they even commented on it when I called after 4 months to check status. She looked at my stuff and said it was exactly what I needed but hadnt got to it yet). They sent me a letter though later when background was done asking if I had been a patient at a local mental hospital I just had to go by there and have them check their records and provide a letter stating I hadn't been. Not sure if something was filed wrong with insurance or where the mess up was but it was easy to clear up. And for the record I applied Feb 5th of 2013.
