I really think that is how it plays out.
Graham will get his, we agree on that. And, Colstons looks might drop a little, but they arent going to be drastic drop. Its not like hes looks will be cut in half. He will still finish the year with at least 70catches. And I dont think Cooks has more receptions than Colston. Could be close to even, but I think Colston edges him out a little.
Cooks is the type of player that opens it up for everybody else. And teams know he is an explosive player. They are going to be looking for him. Other teams will put Colston on the back burner and focus on Graham and Cooks, which opens things up more for Colston. Think he has a damn good season for us.
And im not saying Cooks isnt going to have a breakout year. Because he most def will.

Who's throwing to him?!
Alshon Jeffery and Brandon Marshall wrecked shite with Josh McNown under center.
QBs and RBs are better suited to win ROY.

Uhh ok?
Cant make a prediction about who I think has a good chance to be OROY? Right.... right.
And Im glad we took Cooks over every other WR available, including Matthews. Never said anything like Matthews is better than Cooks. Chillax man.

you make some great points. and I am agreeing with you on Matthews strictly due to his situation. I do like him as a player, but that offense has a racist and a triage as their 2 primary WR's. It is setup perfect for JM to go in and take over
Posted on 5/12/14 at 3:49 pm to Midget Death Squad
Exactly. And thats why I said I think he has the best chance to win it out of all the WRs. Its all due to his situation. Matthews > Cooper already. And Maclin isnt really a go to / primary WR1 and is coming off an ACL injury. And it is a high powered offense with the best rushing attack in the NFL, which opens up the passing game. Its a perfect situation for Matthews to come in and be the guy.
I mean look at Keenan Allen last year. He barely played the 1st few games. He benefitted from a few guys getting hurt, and the fact that he has an above average QB in Rivers to get him the ball. Solid situation.
Its not just about who the best WR or player is for these awards, it has a lot to do with the players around you, system, QB, etc.

which is why Cooks having such high odds is puzzling. He comes to a pass first offense that loves to utilize dynamic playmakers. He is coming into a situation in which he could be one of the top playmakers in the league in only his rookie season. It won't be about how many total catches he has, which I think will be in the 70-80 range, but it will be more about his big plays and the yards he accrues.

You get 3 points for home field, so...

Oh I agree 20-1 is a bit puzzling. Cooks and Matthews should be favored a bit more. And guys like OBJ,Lee, and Adams should be less favored.

when you look at the teams ahead of us its solid odds, but they have the bears on the same level and that is ridiculous.

How many times have you watched a Saints game and the announcers say something like "8 different players have caught a pass for New Orleans" or something to that effect. Brees just spreads the ball around. Cooks will have his impact but it may not be in the sheer numbers that aid in winning end of the year awards.
A guy like Peyton Manning has a track record of producing 3 legit WRs in an offense. He has put his trust in rookie WRs in the past as well. Which is why a guy like Cody Latimer has to be one of the favorites IMO. If he even sniffs 65% of Eric Decker's production as the WR3 in that offense, then he will be your ROY. Demayrius Thomas and Welker get a lot of attention from defenses. Julius Thomas is a stud. Peyton is going to exploit Latimer 1 on 1 a whole lot.
As for Matthews.. Foles loves him some Cooper. Maclin is a damn good WR. I like Matthews but Im not sold on him jumping in as one of the top options just yet. I see Foles going through some growing pains as I think he was playing a bit over his head last season.
Two sneaky guys are the 2 WRs JAX drafted.. Lee and Allen Robinson. If Henne gets the nod, he needs someone to throw to.

New Orleans Saints 20/1
Carolina Panthers 28/1
Atlanta Falcons 40/1
Tampa Bay Buccaneers 50/1
that's kind of high for Carolina. I know they have a tough defense but chances are they won't even repeat as division champs.
no one ever has in the NFC South, right?

Well I was just saying the guys that I think will be ahead of Cooks in terms of reception.
Stills had like 35 catches last year, right? I could see him getting 50 catches or so. But, its all about what role he plays this season. Due to having Moore and Sproles, Stills was primarily a deep threat. Does he stay in that role? Does he bump inside to the slot? Where is Cooks? Etc.
Stills role is still a little cloudy right now IMO. But I dont see him getting more targets / recs than Cooks. Colston, Cooks, and Graham are our top 3 guys IMO. I think Stills comes in when we go 3+ WRs.
But, who knows? We will find out in a few months. So pumped for this season. More talented across the board, more depth, and more explosive. And I think guys like Cam Jordan, Hicks, Galette, etc all improve on D, and Armstead, Stills, Robinson, and hopefully Ingram improve on O. And we get Victor Butler back this year. Gonna be a very, very fun season. And i feel like we are flying under the radar, and i love that.

Yea thats true with Peyton. But, he only will throw to a guy he trusts. If he doesnt trust you, you wont be getting that many looks. Plus, Lattimer is very raw and young when it comes to experience. I dont think he will be on the same page as Manning that much as a rookie. And they signed Emmanuel Sanders. I think he gets the nod as the #3WR next year for Denver.
Maclin is good. But is also coming off an ACL injury and isnt a "go to guy" IMO. And if Foles loves Cooper, he will love Matthews. Hes just better.
I do agree that Lee and Robinson are sneaky. And it sounds like Henne is getting the nod. But, they still have Cecil Shorts and Ace Sanders, who had a very underrated rookie season and the Jags like him a lot. Cecil Shorts is the #1 there, then I think Lee will be the #2 and Sanders is the slot. I think Robinson will have a slow start and go through some growing pains, but when the light comes on he will be a good WR.

WR's have wone the OROY award 8 times since 1968
all the rest have been QB's and RB's
RB's have won 30 of 44
odds are it wont be cooks
i say it will be stankey or bridgewater

They both have 20-1 odds. 20 divided by 2 is 10. Brandin Cooks is going to be #10. CHAMPIONSHIP.

Byrd is gonna turn this defense into a turnover machine and that's gonna be thier most important improvement.
