How Parallel is '08 with This Season?

New QB, 2nd year OC - following a very productive O in '08/'13.
'08 had a much better group of WR's (Toliver, LaFell, and Byrd). I think our RB's will be better this year and OL a little better.
Lots of questions on D.
Will be interesting to see if Les affords Cam as much freedom as he did Crowton.

Not even close to this year on Defense.

Cameron is an NFL calibre OC and one of the best QB position coaches at any level.
Crowton was an average OC and a poor QB coach.

Cameron runs the O.

Chief is one of the best. 2008 had some kind of 2 headed monstrosity.

How similar is a kumquat and a diamond ring?

Mallveto vs this defense?
Short side option with a Harvard transfer?
Interdasting

New QB
True. Either it'll be Jennings or Harris. So you've got one that has one start and the other has no starts but is leading so far. With that said, this isn't news. Flynn was gone after '07, RP was the heir and he screwed that up and eventually got kicked off the team, as we all know. JL was thrown in way before he was ready.
Cam will have the QB's ready, I have faith in that.

Uh no.
So to answer your question, not very parallel.

Well RP got booted rt before the season. Lee and JJ were not taking first team reps all spring and fall. Hatch actually started the season. So that is really not the same. Also Cam > Crowton, Chavis > Malveto.

I'd say that this team is more similar to the 2012 squad than the 2008 squad.. a lot more similar. Adderall posts
Breaking in a new QB.
Insanely talented young RB who took over the starting job halfway through the season.
2-3 very promising young WRs, who were good but not great. Not much depth at the position.
A TE we all thought was going to be very involved in the passing game.
Very very conservative offense early in the season. (177 ypg passing first 8 games, 267 in the last 4.. though to be fair we had no reason to pass vs A&M that year, we ran extremely well)
New return man for punts/kick offs.
Strong kicking game expected
Expecting alot out of Hunter like we were with Mingo
Strong LBs.. we have Debo, Beckwith, Kwon.. 2012 had Minter, Barrow.. no Welter
3rd down offense will probably struggle slightly, it will be nothing like 2013 with automatic 3rd downs. It will be more like 2012 (40.21% on 3rd downs)
2012 had a 1.23 turnover margin, 2011 1.43, this team needs to be somewhere in between.
2014 has an easier schedule than 2012.. and 2012 went 10-2. I'm expecting 10-2 this season

Not sure where you are getting this from. Landry and Beckham are probably two of the best receivers we have had.

08 was one of the worst LSU defenses ever

only question on defense is DT depth and safeties DBs haven't exactly been a problem in the recent past.. not worried

A few parallels in terms of replacing a lot of offensive talent, but the offense was seldom the problem in 2008. The real problem was the Mallveto-led D that was routinely shredded. The stability at DC makes is a huge distinction between 2008 and 2014.

People forget this. That offensive was explosive, until CLM got tired of the Pick 6's and shut it down the last couple games(as he should have).
I expect a similiar offense this season. Explosiveness, with some costly errors mixed in. Hopefully those errors dont give the other team 6 points each time.
I'm just not scared about the defense, i think they will be good, maybe great. Anytime you have two lockdown corners, one of the fastest LB corps, and two good DE, you should be more than fine.

I like how so many people are super quick to blame the defense, but ignore the offense was a turnover machine that put the defense in bad situations in our biggest games. Against UF, UGA, Bama, and Ole Miss we turned the ball over 12 times.
Yea, the defense sucked, but the offense did them no favors and definitely should shoulder some of the blame.
