Come on L=C, Mainieri is asleep at practice and doesn't watch these guys on a daily basis. He can only evaluate them by starting them all at once in the same game.
Wanting to get these guys some playing time isn't a bad thing. And, if you can't do it against Alcorn, when can you?

After the 5th when you're up by 10

This. You didnt hear everyone complaining about the lineup before the game started.
I think this should give the starters a little boost heading into the weekend with the way they came in and took the game over. And kudos to Paul Mainieri for not being too stubborn to insert the starters when he did.

We should have been able to handle Alcorn with our backups. Nobody would have guessed that we couldn't. And giving them game experience when the game is still on the line means so much more than inserting them with a 10-run lead.

Well, you apparently can't do it against Alcorn so.......

Fwiw, I'm afraid Dakota Dean's performance last night might have sealed his LSU future. Blake Dean sat behind me last night at the game and he was mentioning that his little brother....well, you know.

The team had 8 wins total and they play in the SWAC.
And, we planned on pitching our normal midweek guys.
I don't think the risk was all that great. Hindsight is 20/20.

I was hoping he would get his first hit.

Damn, you would think they could afford more than one phone. This is probably Mainieri's fault too somehow. Do any other baseball coaches have one phone for their entire staff
Dammit boy, that's funny!!! I am beginning to see some animosity amongst the Tiger fans over much to do over nothing...So, a little humor is refreshing...

You do realize you're wasting your time, right? These wanna-be coaches know best-always.
The Rant nailed it with Fraley.

He was the next choice for many after it was apparent Foster wasn't going to hit

I don't have a problem with playing the backups last night. The game was played backwards, though. Mainieri could have played the starters 5 innings and jumped all over Alcorn then played the backups. While LSU should have been able to beat Alcorn with their backups this game was too important with Alcorn's incredible RPI to risk putting themselves in the position they found themselves in after 5 last night. These guys are 20 years old. They don't need days off like MLB players playing evey day. They can rest today and tomorrow if they need it.
LSU's hitting is finally coming around, too. If LSU would have taken care of business without the starters that would have been almost a week without swinging the bat in a game. It's almost May and the team is getting hot at the plate. It might not be best for the team to sit down the hot bats for a week and give them a chance to cool off.

Can't argue with your logic "Boat"...and Fraley is the Bregman this year, just a shame he didn't get more playing time earlier in the year...Put him behind ellicks bregman and bregs may start seeing some better pitches to swing at...

You should start a thread on the help board on his behalf.
