Do I need to Weed & Feed my yard?

Hello OB, I know I will sound dumb for asking this but I will. I just moved into a new home and this is really the first yard Ive had to keep up. The backyard has a bunch of those yellow flowers (what are these?) Should I make a pass with weed and feed? If so, what do I need to know? Does yard need to be damp? Rotary spreader? Help a new guy out.

Mow it a lot, like every week.

I can post pics this afternoon. What are those yellow flowers?
When is the ideal time to weed and feed for the future? Right when it starts to warm up?

Depends on where you live and the temp. Lots of time weed needs to happen before the feed...

yes, right when you start to see the weeds and while the grass is still dormant
although I don't use weed & feed
I put down 2,4D or atrazine in February, then fertilize in March, and then Ironite in May

I normally weed, not feed, and that works for me. My lawn seems to do well without fertilizer. If you decide to fertilize, be prepared to mow more than once a week in the summer. You may regret the decision in decision in August.

Yes, go ahead and get some Scott's bonus s weed and feed and a rotary spreader.
Yard should be dry when you put it out but must be watered in right after.
Also, raise your mower height to the highest setting and mow frequently and your hard will look great

Not sure but it's what the bag says. I think it might have something to do with the granules getting stuck on a damp yard instead of making it all the way down into the soil?

figure ill throw this question in here...
I fertilized about three weeks ago, not really seeing any results from it yet. should i be seeing results already?
I think i went a little light on the application so that may be the issue. Should i reapply?

I spoke with the local LSU Ag extension office about a brown patch issue I was having and he told be some things to do. He said Bonus S was a waste of money. I didn't use it this year and just fertalized with triple 13. Because of the large amount of deadened area due to the brown patch, I'm left with some undesirable weeds growing. The grass is catching up, but I've never had this problem in the past. I will always use Bonus S in the future as I've never had this problem before. Only thing I have an issue with and can't get rid of is Dallis Grass.
