Holy shite. Maybe Princeton is not the right place for her, or more specifically you.

I don't think that is happening here.

I think it's more of a case of anc's daughter wants to feel comfortable about here decision to go (or not go) to Princeton.

I admit I haven't read the entire thread. It's just that I had the opportunity to go to a prestigious school at one time and I'm the one who screwed up. I regret it. Not because it's labeled as "prestigious" but because the experience is once in a lifetime.

I'm sure the OP is a good parent, and the values he instilled in her won't be compromised by a university.

Wow! That is some kind of unnecessary, nails-scraping-chalkboard screed, asu. Almost comes across as Princeton envy relative to the OP and his daughter.

Do you have a case of OP envy?

Vandy is now in upper 60's; glad my daughter decided against it.

I appreciate it, but I don't deserve her as a daughter because I do want to be involved in this decision and make sure its right for her. I'm expecting DHS to come take her away from me at any time now.

A majority of these board is college-educated, and at least has a greater interest in broader domestic and world issues than your average person. You are either selling your fellow posters short, or inflating the intelligence of your average American.

Yea, I wouldn't put too much stock in a person who says he wouldn't send a kid, under any case, to Brown, Columbia or Penn. I feel like definitive statements like that only apply to Alabama

But at 18 if you start meddling with his choices, expect to be told to frick the hell off.

my oldest is 21 and we have no problem with discussions about her life. (and frankly, we don't have a problem when she tells me I'm fricking up) My job as a parent is to inject wisdom when I see that it may help. I don't force anything on her, and I don't do it in any way that I would be told to "frick the hell off". She knows my only interest is her well-being.

Columbia =dreary, dangerous concrete setting
Penn= ditto, armpit of the ivy league except the mba
Brown= bat shite crazy leftist with a euro flavor

Princeton is a country club setting. As for ideology, we are talking about higher ed, so no matter what school you go to things lean left.

I have a friend whose dad is faculty at Vandy. Got tuition completely free of charge. Too bad he didn't really take advantage of the opportunity

My cousin is studying MechE there...in order to become a pilot in the Navy. Didn't get in to Annapolis, for whatever reason.

Receiving interest? What the hell does that mean? Hell I got mail from pretty much all the Ivies just based on my ACT score and I wouldn't have had a shot in hell getting in undergrad. When she's accepted, this is worth talking about.

As I understand it, the former is not established, and the latter has not yet been afforded.

Vandy is really really nice. And they have money to spend! It was in my final 3 for med school. I was close to choosing it based solely on the fact that they have free laundry service for all med students

If she's going Pre-med and sticks with it, an Ivy League college isn't necessary. LSU, Loyola and Tulane all turn out excellent students who do well in medical school. Medicine is one field where name brand schools don't offer much of an advantage once you're out on your own.
