Hell I got mail from pretty much all the Ivies just based on my ACT score and I wouldn't have had a shot in hell getting in undergrad.

true, having financial commitments as a junior is extremely rare at this point. I don't think any National Merit stuff has been released yet.

Right. Unless Jim Jones is now teaching at Princeton.

Just kidding.

My point was that the Ivies send mail to a bunch of people. I scored well on the ACT, but the rest of my application would have been dog shite. If this OP thinks that getting mail from Princeton equates to an acceptance, that's highly illogical. They send a bunch of mail to people who score well on standardized tests in order to attract applicants they can deny so they can boast about a low acceptance rate.

Funny. I think he is surely implying that if I quit, the average would be top 20%

Medicine is one field where name brand schools don't offer much of an advantage once you're out on your own.

I disagree. It definitely doesn't matter to the degree it does for law, business, etc, and no one GAF where you did undergrad after med school, but there still is a value to name recognition when applying (assuming you did well at that school of course).

I guess this is your sticking point, but I was really looking for exactly what I got. Different viewpoints on the matter. If I wasn't going to consider it, I certainly wouldn't have posted. I feel like the PoliBoard represents a higher than average intelligence, and that the opinion of the group at large is probably good advice.

No, not really, my sticking point was that your concerned seemed to be more grounded in the horror of liberals educating your daughter then what she wants.

If you raised a good kid, no amount of liberal indoctrination is going to change that.

Vandy is really really nice. And they have money to spend! It was in my final 3 for med school.

Be thankful you didn't. Students were very sheltered/coddled. Limited experience. Always looking for a lecture to attend instead of getting their hands dirty. My podunk state medical school trained students better clinically to take care of people.

the OP just looked at the site and their tuition programs (which might not even apply b/c he makes $70k AGI per this thread)

Heh...no

My youngest wants to go to MIT and has the grades to do it.

My kids went/go to school where they want to go. I trust my job as a parent was done well enough for them to make good choices when they get there.

Cool! I never heard of Rhodes before now. I'd encourage my daughter to go to Princeton if those were my choices.

Do the Ivy Leagues consider diversity when reviewing applications?

Hmm interesting, I guess I dodged a bullet then. I mainly didn't go because they were transitioning to a new curriculum and my class would have had to suffer through a mix of both the new and old curriculum. It seemed like a total cluster.

Somewhere between 16-19, I'd wager.

Smart folks tend to interact with those of comparable intelligence, which skews their perception on how stupid the average person really is.

Everybody forgets this line and freaks out over this...

And then freaks out over some BS about liberal groupthink that was not said by the OP.

This thread is mostly from a financial point of view and I really don't get why you should freak out over it.
