Wife is in Peds residency. Almost done with her 2nd year. She hopes to specialize in Allergies/Immunology.

You need to get out in the real world, dumbass. If you're making 80K straight out of college, then you're a real baller and got really lucky. Out of my social group (and we're all doing well for ourselves), only one of us is making that kind of cash. Sure, eventually we'll be making that kind of money, but a year or two out of college, absolutely not.
This one hundred percent.

Mine will probably want to specialize as well.
Wiz, we're not so different you and I

I make just over 55k. I have a gf, pay $300/month towards college debt, have an apartment, eat at a nice restaurant about once a week with the gf, eat out for lunch 3-4 days a week, give some to my church, I'm a notorious impulse buyer, and still manage to save around 1,000 per month. You can definitely do it. Don't know how much different your living market is from mine.. But you should be good to go at that rate.

Have you guys ever thought that your wife might be just using you to get through med school?

As of this year, I was finally catpulted over the six figure mark. She'll be making somewhere in the neighborhood of $185k in about three years. I think she would be just fine without me. So to answer your question, no. I don't think she puts up with my shite just so I can help pay $1,000/month interest notes.

Bitch please, I make 25k and I live comfortably.

You must definitely live with other people
I made a little more than that at my first job and was eating ramen and living with two friends. Although, I was still paying my graduate school in cash.

Not me , but I've more than made up for it.
Did the OP ever say what his field is? It's pretty impressive to get a job paying 55k out of school, unless you're in engineering or have to travel extensively.

Even with some experience? I figured people in HR/accounting/safety jobs made around that out of school.

I guess there are multiple factors to consider i.e. paid benefits. I made $40k my first job out of college and I had full benefits. In theory, I guess you could say that I made closer to $50k.

More like 3200 a month, I was making 50k last year and pulled in right at 3k/mo after taxes. Started a new job last sept and am making much more now. Funny how your views change on what is good money as you move up.

The only accounting people that I know came out of school making around 40k. I wouldn't think that HR would make much more than that either, coming straight from school. I'm not really sure about safety, I only know one person who's in that field, but he has a master's degree and does off-shore work. I'm guessing he makes well above 55k.
Hell, I even know someone who had experience and came out of school making less than 55k in electrical engineering.
Including only salary, not benefits.

Definitely, especially if you get married/move to a new city/start paying for wife's professional school. It seems like the more you make, the more expenses you gain.
