people always slam the bcs for screwing up and laud college basketball for allowing their championship matchup to be decided on the court, but is having a 7 and 8 seed playing for the title really a good thing? It basically renders the regular season useless and doesn't reward success at all. I know most years a 1 seed wins, but a lot of times we see a lower seed sneak into a title game because they underachieved all season and get hot at the right time. People complain about the bcs, but you always have the best team in it, and a dispute about who is the 2nd or 3rd best.

Not really good or bad, just depends on whether or not you want the regular season to mean anything

The fact that it's two storied programs who had mediocre seasons (by their standards) kind of makes it less interesting to me.

pretty terrible if anybody ever wants to defend the tourney as anything more than duck dynasty-level entertainment

I love the tourney.. but I think this particular scenario is bad. You have two traditional powerhouses who had slightly down years. I'm not near as interested as I would normally be.

And it just adds validity to the notion that the regular season doesn't mean anything.

People give the BCS shite.. but it almost always gets it right. Even in the controversial years (03, 04, 11), the teams that made the game had a good case to be there.

I couldn't care less about the seeds in the championship game. At the end of the day, it's two teams that are playing fantastic basketball and it should provide for an entertaining game.

Shouldn’t even have a regular season…..just play this tournament every March and hand out a trophy

They earned it by beating #1 seed team by double digits.

People always criticize college ball saying ?the best teams didn't win it all. I find that argument invalid. ?the best team had a chance to win it all. But they lost. So that is just too bad. Its not always about being ?the best team. But of who is playing ?the best basketball at the right time.

I dont think its good or bad. But more importantly, it shouldn't be compared to other sports. The big 3 major sports (pros/ncaa) all have different regular/post season and collectively they work. Its interesting as a whole.

Every post season has flaws.

Bad. I'm not watching.

Arizona - Florida....
Also anything with UVA, Wich Stat, or UL, I'd tune in.

I'm not very interested in watching blue-bloods which happen to make it to the Champ game after under-performing all year.
I want them both to lose.

As much as I hate Florida athletics, they went 36-3 this year in basketball and were one game away from the championship game to face a team they beat 3 times this year.

UConn caught them on a bad night, which happens when you are on a 30+ game win streak...Florida was clearly the best team this year

bad thing. the best team in the country has won the tournament so fricking often, but they wont this year and that kinda blows. i love the tournament and it almost never actually gets it wrong, but it will tonight.

It means what we already knew anyway.....the regular season is 100% meaningless. All that matters is that you play mediocre to get in and then the real season starts and you have to only play well in 6 games.

It's fine in this instance because it just so happens that the two programs are blue bloods and actually are chock full of talent that will be NBA bound soon. But if it were, say, Colorado and Oregon, it would be terrible.

Doesn't matter the seed number, at the end of the day the two best teams are playing. They earned it. If and when college football goes to a playoff there will be times when a 8 beats a 1 seed or 7 over 2 (not saying it's gonna be a 8 team playoff but you get my drift) they won when it matters and these are the two best teams

It is what it is really. That is the way of the tourney and what makes it fun.

It's interesting either way. It's another byproduct of the one and done effect. Teams led by talented 18 and 19 year old start getting some cohesiveness and the right stage and regular season records are out. Uconn has upperclassmen but why are they a 7 seed anyway?
