I would say that repubs could boycott firefox but I have a feeling that most repubs are internet explorer users with AOL email addresses.
Nothing wrong with stereotyping.

If that opinion puts the company at risk, then sure, why not?
Same can't be said if someone loses their job because of their support for gay marriage. Media, the left, gays, would have a hissy fit of epic proportions if this happened.
It's the hypocrisy that is evident. Gays fought hard to end this type of intolerance and they are now just as guilty as those who bullied them.

Again, why are y'all against letting market forces do their thing? He isn't entitled to a job with Firefox.
He did nothing to warrant losing a job. Your personal viewpoint on politics, religion, whatever should be kept separate from your professional career. It was the OKCupid site who threw a temper tantrum about him donating and made his personal opinion an issue, all because it wasn't the same as theirs.

It's their right to fire him, it's your right to protest. That's how I feel about it.

All of a sudden, you are for "market forces????
(You're clearly missing the point of my argument. And, yes, I think this is a pretty good example of how market forces work regarding someone's employment.)
quote:
Why is bashing Mozilla for this claiming we are against market forces?
That's not what I was saying. Don't miss the point.
I was simply saying that people are like "#SMH at the left" as if this were done by government policy. This was a business decision made by people in the private sector. Why is "the left" or "liberal intolerance" to blame (as per the OP)?
quote:
They have every right to do it, but people have every right to protest their action.
I agree 100%. Just make sure you're protesting what actually happened and who was actually behind it.
quote:
Are you against market forces?
In most cases, no.

It can't?

I mean, Chick-Fil-A's still in business, aren't they?
quote:

Who are you to make that decision? Are you Mozilla? Are you their CFO? Are you on their board?
Why can't you let the private sector make their own decisions without nitpicking them! #NANNYSTATE!!11

Your personal viewpoint on politics, religion, whatever should be kept separate from your professional career.
So let's say that an executive at a company in the United States - let's say Target - says something like "death to America" and Target, in fear of backlash from their customers, fires him for it. Is that wrong of them to do? Is that them being "intolerant" of his beliefs?
Guess what: your personal life isn't wholly separate from your professional life. What you do in your free time, what you say, what you believe, etc., can all impact the organization you work for. They should be able to act on this within reason.

Yeah, and? That's their prerogative, just as it's Mozilla's to fire people if something they do or say negatively hurts the company's image.

I'd remove Mozilla from my computer, if I knew how and wouldn't cause some sort of meltdown. I sure as hell won't be using them anymore.

The whole idea of tolerance is not to judge, this is what the left wants.
The whole idea of tolerance is to allow people to freely speak their mind without retribution. When it comes to business, I can see how it could affect job status.
There is no tolerance. There is only preferred speech and actions.

I don't see the problem here. No one infringed on his rights. This is the free market at work.
The Right is offended because the Left is intolerant and those of us in the middle don't give a shite either way.
Honestly, many on this board go out of their way to complain and whine about stuff. Its like they can't be happy without finding fault elsewhere. Live and Live folks. Its a lot easier that way and you'll get no ulcers.

If he came out in favor of repealing the 2nd Amendment, the right would have him strung up.

At first I felt bad for the guy. But then I read that he made a public apology. That pisses me off. I'm sick of people expressing their true feelings and then apologizing when pressure is applied. Doesn't anyone stand on their principles anymore?

Would you give this same advice to the folks upset at this gentleman's donation?

This isn't about a product whether it rises or fails on it's merit.
This is hounding someone because of his personal beliefs.
But if you want to pat yourself on your back for feeling as if you made some great point, go ahead. Before the Left outlaws that.

Yeah I lose respect for people like that as soon as they apologize.

Absolutely. I truly don't give a shite about things that don't pertain to me, and that includes women's rights, abortion, unions, guns, religion, etc. My life is good - why would I want to screw it up by worrying about this crap. Just let it go and move along - you'll be happier that way.
The only way I'd care about the guy in the OP is if I worked for the company and it affected my livelihood.

And that's how authoritarian systems come into being.
You don't think something like this could come up and bite you in the rear someday?
But who's going to support your rights, if they've already been silenced?

Let me try to help you out. Here are two concepts:
1. Critiquing the news of the day. Expressing your opinions. Engaging in debate.
2. Worrying.
You seem confused and are actually mixing these two concepts.
I engage in concept No. 1. The only thing I 'worry' about is my chipping. It's horrible.

Never be outlawed. It's pretty much what the rank-and-file leftist does best.

Funny you complain about this on a site that censored the last thread because of the opinions voiced in it. Is there any way to ask a mod for a reason that thread was anchored?
