Tolerance is only as relavent as the person defining it.

Being counter culture in any way shape or form was a recipe for harassment not too long ago. If you were going to succeed in business or politics, you needed to be straight and god fearing, not to mention a white male.
Its in our lifetimes that it was common for gays to fear coming out at as gay for the retribution they would feel from their friends, family and workplace.
this is a good point
that said, what happened to Eich doesn't mean that the situation is any better IMV. it shows that the pendulum may have swung too far too fast in the other direction, at least in this industry

Do you work in tech? tech is strange beast. its a workplace that is pseudo libertarian, and its unique in that overall unemployment rate is very low, low single digits.
I would prefer a world where we celebrate diversity, like really celebrate it. But I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Looks like the left supports the idea that someone should lose their job for having an opinion.
If that opinion puts the company at risk, then sure, why not?
Again, why are y'all against letting market forces do their thing? He isn't entitled to a job with Firefox.

agree. i don't know whether we ever truly had this ideal, or even understood it sadly

frankly I don't see any inherent advantage to "diversity" outside of diversity of thought and experience. A business is much better off with the best team possible, regardless of what the staff looks like, who they sleep with, what god(s) they believe in or don't believe in, etc.

Personally, I would rather one where people are simply judged on their merits and possibly some consideration as to how they interact with others, without having to live in fear of potential thought police gotchas around every corner.

The nation’s full-time gay-rights professionals simply will not rest until a homogeneous and stultifying monoculture is settled upon the land, and if that means deploying a ridiculous lynch mob to pronounce anathema upon a California technology executive for private views acted on in his private life, then so be it. The gay agenda of the moment is, ironically enough, to force nonconformists into the metaphorical closet
quote:
Unless, that is, you’re the anti-gay-marriage candidate that all the pro-gay-marriage people voted for in 2008, in which case you get a pass, apparently on the theory that everybody assumed you were being willfully dishonest for political reasons. (That assumption provides a relatively rare point of agreement between homosexual activists and the editors of this magazine.) There simply is to be no disagreement, no dissent, and no tolerance for other points of view.
Every now and then someone in the media speaks the truth.

I would agree the diversity that is best is thought and experience, but generally if you look or are different, your experience and thought process will be different. Not always but its reasonable in my experience.

Intolerance of intolerance is still intolerance, numbnuts.

The second quote is spot on in spades. Those are what the likes of Toddys United seek while speaking BS about they only want the right to marriage. When they are turned away by an election of the people they immediately run to the court systems for redress. A decision of one or a group of up to ten judges make the law in black robes to be followed by all.

You really think terrorism is part of the market force?
Let's just imagine for a second if those on the right terrorized corporations and got people fired because they donated to a pro-gay marriage group.

Well I guess some could argue that terrorism or terrorist views are a part of the market or are the result of market forces.
Not sure how that's relevant here, however.

But let's not pretend that we are exiting that world NOW. We were never in it.
People are just pointing out the irony in that those who were previously oppressed by that world NOW oppress others in the same manner. It's the hypocrisy that is so nauseating. Otherwise I really dont give a shite about some (x)illionaire quitting his job.

All of a sudden, you are for "market forces????
Why is bashing Mozilla for this claiming we are against market forces? They have every right to do it, but people have every right to protest their action.
Are you against market forces?

I would say that repubs could boycott firefox but I have a feeling that most repubs are internet explorer users with AOL email addresses.
