Haven't seen the shield. So cannot reference.

BB pilot wasn't all that captivating IMO. It took me a few eps to become addicted.

I think the best Pilots I've ever seen are :

True Detective
Lost
GoT

I liked Justified's pilot. I don't know if it was better than those three, but it was really good.

I've always thought Eastbound and Down had the best comedy pilot I've seen.

Raylan's showdown with the Miami gun thug set the tone for the whole series, especially for Raylan's character. I mean he tracks the guy down(who he had already given a 24 hr "get out of my town or I'll kill you notice")in the middle of a restaurant with the express intent of shooting right then and there. He spooks the guy into pulling first with his unique way with words, and then out draws him. You couldn't have set up his character for the audience any better.

Then throw in Boyd blowing up a pot church with a rocket launcher, Raylan and Dewy Crow's interactions, the whole chicken dinner scene at the end, and our first taste of the Raylan/Boyd dialog that was so good that the writers, after they had time to review all of their scenes, had to rewite the ending so that Boyd doesn't die instead of their original intent to have him killed off like in the book.

It was an awesome pilot, that's for sure.

West Wing

Agree with Freaux's rankings, but I'll also throw in Six Feet Under for having a truly great pilot. People remember the finale (and rightly so), but the pilot was amazing as well.

Friday Night Lights
