Ok? Care to elaborate?

Unfortunately there is no company C.

Are you sure you are finished looking? You have differing offers from two firms; are they the only possibilities? Are you in a Pepsi/Coke world with only two real players?

easily A.

I'd take the 4 weeks PTO even if they had a slightly lower salary.

No, there is a third option that I am waiting to hear back from, which would be a no-brainer should I get the offer. Offer from company A expires tomorrow, and I have already asked for an extension previously.

To add to this, I live in a city where tech and IT are booming, and it would be a wise choice to go with company B.

That market isn't going away EVER and should have great openings nationwide once you have the experience....possibly latching on to a startup opportunity later on that could have you retired at 40...

B it is. There is NO WAY you don't know a little about the bonus structure...could it be as high as $20k extra....tell us about it!

B if you want a career in tech.

If job A is public sector/schools then your experience will be valuable in that area but less so in the corporate world. But if that is a sector that you are interested in and would be happy with a career in then that shouldn't be a factor.

Marketing jobs tend to go to those with experience in the sector. Those with experience in franchising are valuable in that sector, tech to tech, consumer goods to consumer goods. Not saying you can't cross over but most employers won't value you as highly if your experience is outside of their core business.

I would go with company A.

I got an offer form a company that built a bonus into the salary. The base was lower than I make now, but with a bonus potential to make a lot more. The bonus was up to 20%, but when I asked what was the reasonable expectation all I got was it was on an individual basis. I said no thanks-I don't negotiate bonus as part of a salary. A bonus is what it means- something extra, not a part of your salary.

4 weeks paid time off is mighty attractive..

This. Assuming opportunity for advancement is even close to equal for the two firms, this would be one hell of a tie-breaker.

Well, I woke up this morning leaning towards A and ready to make my decision.

I went back to company B, and discussed further b/c it is in the field I would prefer to be in. Discussed the bonus and 401K plans, and the bonus could easily be an additional ~$10-15K. Discussed the role a bit more in depth, and I feel the opportunity for growth is definitely there. I upped the PTO to 3 weeks, with 2 more personal days after a year with the company.

I went against the grain and ended up going with B. I just can't turn down the opportunity to gain tech experience when it comes to marketing and the location I am. There would be far more opportunities outside the company if I go with B.

So I'm officially an employee of Company B, and start March 31st.

It sounds like either decision was a good one, and you did good. Good luck!

I wish I were young enough to chase another opportunity.

Good luck! For future reference, one of the best negotiating moves I've ever made was to get the employer to guarantee a % bonus for two years. That way, you don't get hosed with a bad year (or pro-rated your first year).
