Motor boat was correct. We used to camp out there and then bought a camp on timbalier which then got destroyed by Gustav. Don't go during the middle of summer. Unless u like being hot in middle of day. Hopefully you like sand bc it will be everywhere, literally. Depending on what time of year yes you will have biting insects. Bring food bc you will not always catch fish. You can build a fire. We have camped out there more than anyone I'm guessing and always built a fire and had zero problems. I mean whose gonna see it? Clean up after yourself like you weren't even there and you will not have any problems.

I think the island is leased by Louisiana land exploration. There are no trespassing signs all over.

Thought the state owns the island and La Land Exploration owns some of the mineral rights?

Isn't there a on going suit with a family from the Houma area claiming they own the island.

If it is public, I'd love to snoop around that place with a metal detector. I'm sure most of the cool stuff is long gone, but who knows.

For those of you who haven't, check out Island in a Storm, and Last Days of Last Island. Don't waste your time with "Chita"...pretty Beta.

there's no one out there to tell you to leave. Go out there and do it. My bet is that all the metal is under water since the island has shifted so much over time.

Think they own, some, not all of the mineral rights on portions of the island.

They owned the island for 30 plus years before donating it to the state.

Thanks for all the info Fellas. Also, I can't find Trinity Bayou on my map, but I did see a canal labeled California Canal on the backside of the island. Is this the Bayou I would use to anchor down in?

Always wanted to fish Last Island, but never attempted to go there in my 18' Nautic Star. I would love to know how long of a ride it would be in case I ever attempted the trip (have a 90 Mercury).

I go out of Four Point Marina but my camp is only about a 20 minute ride from the arrow. Straight north/south shot.

Imma have to look this up.... never launched from there. Family lives in morgan city so Jugs is the closest spot for the best fishing IMO. Thanks for the info MB.

From maps its only 10-15min longer drive.
