Book readers, if GOT passes ASOIAF, will you still watch?

the show creators continue to meet with GRRM about where the series is headed in the end, so would you keep watching if major plot developments began to play out on-screen before they were published?
Has GRRM commented further on if he would, in fact, provide them with the material to spoil his story on TV?
I enjoy the show as a supplement of sorts to the book series, but there's still no comparison for me.
I would hate to see a watered-down version of AOIAF play out on screen first, and would stop watching.

quote:
In the April issue of Vanity Fair, on stands March 13, show co-creator David Benioff tells Windolf, “Last year we went out to Santa Fe for a week to sit down with him [Martin] and just talk through where things are going, because we don’t know if we are going to catch up and where exactly that would be. If you know the ending, then you can lay the groundwork for it. And so we want to know how everything ends. We want to be able to set things up. So we just sat down with him and literally went through every character.” Martin tells Windolf, “I can give them the broad strokes of what I intend to write, but the details aren’t there yet. I’m hopeful that I can not let them catch up with me.”

It would be difficult to not watch, but I certainly want to read the series in full before watching it in full.

If the next book came out this year...MAYBE it would all align. But that doesn't seem likely.
I 100% know he'll die before he finishes.

And yes I would watch. Despite having been reading this series since 2000...I found the last two books to be an total bore.

Well it's not like Fatty McSlapnuts is ever gonna finish the books anyhow.

I'm not confident that GRRM will ever finish the series, so I probably would keep watching the show although I think that it's a worse way to initially experience the material.

He made vague mention of WoW on his blog recently, and made it seem like it was just about his 4th-5th priority in the general scheme of things, writing wise. Sounds about right.

Could it end up being like Dexter? After the first season, the universe in the show and the universe in the books were clearly separate storylines. I know Jeff Lindsay was still involved with the series, but the show went in a completely different direction from the books.

If I knew the books were going to finish, I would wait to watch until finishing the books. If he dies before finishing and someone else will take up the mantle, I'd probably watch the show first.

I watched the first season before reading the books, I personally think it was more enjoyable than watching the next seasons knowing what happpens.

I'm really not sure.
I've been reading the books since 97 or 98 when A Clash of Kings released. My friend got me turned on to it. We've had long discussions about it after every book comes out. I want to believe that "tradition" won't end...but when the show passes up the books, I know if I watch them then it will.
So I'll say I'd TRY not to watch them. But that'd mean staying away from a lot of websites that I like to check while at work.

I haven't checked into it in a while, but I think about a year ago that he claimed to be maybe 1/3 or 1/4 of the way through writing WoW. So if that's accurate then I think it means that it took him 2 years to get at best 1/3 of the way through the next book because ADwD was published in 2011. At that pace he won't come out with WoW until like 2016 or 2017.

I think the story is set up with so many incredible places to go that the final two books will have to be amazing. Now if he adds an 8th book to the series, all bets are off, but he's still a great writer and I can't wait to see where characters like Arya, the hound, Jamie, etc end up

I'd watch, he may die before he finishes this one.

No I wouldn't.
And to ensure I wasn't spoiled, I'd disassociate myself with anyone that continued to watch the series, never turn on the TV, and never get on TD again

quote:Of course not knowing spoilers made the show more enjoyable to watch, but there's no question which medium provides the better first experience IMO.

The point where we will all be Hodors is coming.

Even worse, the point where Hodors have the power to spoil is coming.
Hugo's list would have to change to Hodors, threads with spoilers in the title would be started on an hourly basis, and the crackpot thread would be overrun by the incessant naive theorizing of Hodors.
Thats more terrifying than the Others storming the Wall and descending upon the Seven Kingdoms.

Hell yeah I'll watch it. I can't resist. And I'll still finish up the last 2 books.

There will still be some holdouts who want no information from the books even after the show has passed them by.
