re: Book readers, if GOT passes ASOIAF, will you still watch?

Even worse, the point where Hodors have the power to spoil is coming.
Hugo's list would have to change to Hodors, threads with spoilers in the title would be started on an hourly basis, and the crackpot thread would be overrun by the incessant naive theorizing of Hodors.
Thats more terrifying than the Others storming the Wall and descending upon the Seven Kingdoms.
And the sad thing is that since Fat Boy is eating too many lemoncakes and pies and he's 65 years old, who knows when TWoW will be out. I'm still hopeful for 2015, and if he swears he's not going to let the series catch up, 2015 is the absolute LATEST. No way in hell that he has ADoS finished in time.
I also found it interesting that the article said 7-8 seasons/no more than 8 seasons. I've always thought that 8 was the right number of seasons for this series. I think finishing it in 7 is going to be too rushed, and that 9 seasons is too many. 8 is just right.

I'm finishing up Breaking Bad right now. I have 3 episodes left in the last season. If I see anything online or on the radio or anything pertaining to it, I turn it off immediately. I can't imagine doing that for multiple years with ASOIAF, but I will do it just because I enjoy the books so much.

I'd watch. I read the books after watching the first two seasons. Was still fun to read the books knowing what was going to happen.

Same here. I went into the first 2 seasons as a Hodor and started reading the books during Season 3 and finished them about 2 months after S3 ended. I haven't done any rereads yet but I reread a lot of the synopses on Tower of the Hand and frequent the Westeros.org forums. I plan on doing a full reread of all 5 books once S4 ends.

frick me. That's some terrifying shite. I hadn't even thought that through.

I can't imagine the pressure there would be on a writer of a series that takes off before its finished.
I'd probably drag it out til my death too. That way, it remains unfinished, and I'd get to avoid the incessant bitching about my ending.

Of course. Why wouldn't I? The thing is D.B. and Dan have done a great job, but they've also left out a lot that really lets the audience understand the world that these characters are in. I think that there's going to have to be a season where there is more emphasis on the religions and history of this world. It plays a very important role in ASoIaF yet we have not seen it in GoT. D.B and Dan seem to put more emphasis on who is the last to sit the Iron Throne than on the real threat that is at the edge of the world. So they can do they're show but I'll still read.

Found it on this app for iPhone wallpapers. Tried to put it on here, but it was too small so I googled the description and found it.
Showed it to some of my Hodor friends when I first found it and they were like: "I don't get it."
Of course the show can't touch the novels but like I said I think that they're going to have to pump the breaks on the shows and put some missing detail in or they're just going to go for who ends up on the Iron Throne.

Yes I will still watch. I will not like that the books aren't finished and always wondering if the TV show was supposed to happen that way.
Also, I don't like being a potential Hodor.

Is the series really going to be able to do one season per book though? They've already split Book 3 into two seasons why would we assume they're able to do the remaining four books in one season each?
Regardless Martin is a fat piece of shite, albeit a brilliant writer, who clearly has no idea how he'll wrap this story up, at least logistically in terms of getting all the characters where they need to be. He might not even know how it'll actually end yet. But it doesn't matter bc he'll die before he finishes it. Not like he needs the money, this show was the worst thing to happen to the book fans.

Well they've only got 2 of the 4 books to work with and they're going to combine them and probably finish both in two seasons (why Martin split books 4 and 5 the way he did and why nobody told him it was a terrible idea is anybodys guess)
I do think that the show should backtrack and do a season detailing Robert's Rebellion since a lot of the details of it are lost on the Hodors, but I'm not sure if its reasonable to expect.
I'd settle for extended flashbacks ala Lost, but a lot of the characters needed to do that are already dead, and I think that might turn off Hodors more than a season of backtracking

I may be in the minority when I say this, but I'm fully convinced that they'll finishing covering Feast and Dance material before Season 6. They're going to cut out a few of the unnecessary crap plots and streamline others/condense them. And since they'll basically take the "Boiled Leather" approach, a lot of the plots are going to intertwine in the show and it won't be as repetitive. And since David and Dan are convinced it can be finished in 7-8 seasons, I think it's reasonable for them to have these remaining seasons play out this way:
1.) Season 4: finish up ASoS, and start up AFFC continue ADWD
2.) Season 5: continue and wrap up AFFC and ADWD
3.) Season 6: TWoW
4.) Season 7: roughly the last 1/2 of TWoW, and 1/2 ADoS
5.) Season 8: ADoS (and it wouldn't surprise me if it's 7-8 episodes instead of 10, depending on how much time they need to wrap up ADoS)

Sadly, this is true, but I hope that he survives to finish the series. Otherwise we'll all be writing the last book together, with OMLandshark as the main writer.

of course. Plus, I would know that the book ending would probably be quite different from the show.

Well, after GRRM dies, Benioff will end up writing the final book anyway, so I don't see much difference.

Well, supposedly Martin has already told Weis and Beinoff the end game that hes known since the '90s, so while the details could be different, the major endings for the main characters would probably be the same

I think he finishes Dream of Spring much quicker than the last few books. He know how he wants to end it, he is just having trouble tying everything together I'm sure. If he isn't careful he will have to do an 8th book. Once he gets all of the games pieces in place, the storm will hit. 2015 for Winds, 2017 for Dream.
That being said, I wouldn't be able to resist finding out what happens. Someone would spoil the shite out of it for me and I would rather the show do that then some a-hole that never cracked a book. No offense Hodors
