The Florida teams aren't moving.
They exist for one reason: so transplanted fans from the Northeast can see the Yankees, Red Sox, Mets and Phillies.
Especially the Rays. Tampa is home of Yankees Spring Training. There is a big East Coast fan base there.

I've always thought VA Beach area could support a pro basketball team
Id love a pro team ,but the traffic is already fricking horrible here for no apparent reason. Its one of the reason we lost out to DC for the nationals even though be had Baltimore backing us.However, the light rail has helped a little bit they just need to expand it.

Why can't Texas have more than two team? How many damn teams are there in Cali?

LOL Dallas and houston are more Texas than Austin, buddy

If there is such a big fanbase for MLB in Florida why was Tampa having to tarp off sats during the playoffs?

not saying we are but you might see a nice chunk of real estate bought up in downtown Tampa by the Forum within the next 5-7 years
5-7 years just to buy the land for a new stadium? Plus however long it takes to get funding passed and construction time, it could be 10 years before Tampa builds a new stadium.
The Trop is a dump NOW. If the city of Tampa and the owners don't have plans in the works already, I wouldn't expect the Rays to be around for another 10 years.

Before I came to the Trop all I heard about was how it's a dump. I know its not PNC or Citizen's Bank but the Trop serves it purpose. Your going to watch baseball. BTW the Rays are currently pushing Rays 360 where now you can walk around the lower bowl from the inside concourse. Completely renovating the Batter's Eye with a huge bar and many tvs. Should be really nice once completed. The one thing that upsets me about the Trop is the AstroTurf. It's not in great condition and that's because we host tons of events in the off season and constant load in and load out wears it down. We have the TBT* Boat Show this weekend then we're done for 3 weeks so we can finish up all the construction in the bowl and field maintenance and we will be ready for Opening Day on March 31st.
EDIT*
There are alot of hurdles the Rays are trying to jump through to get out of the lease with the Trop that runs through 2022. The year might be slightly off but it's close. Either way the new mayor of Pinellas County really wants to get this ball rolling and is actively pushing for this to happen.

Yeah with the influx of west coasters Austin feels like a foreign country now.

Trop isn't bad at all. Sure, it's not on par with other venues, but it definitely isn't awful.
And saying the Rays need to move to tampa =

the Rangers have been in the top 3 in attendance the last 3 or 4 seasons
They have been top 3 once, in 2012. And you can look it up and do the math. The figures I gave are 100% accurate.

Austin would be a great city if it weren't for Austinites.

d everybody knows about the Astros attendance lately.
What about other than the last 3-4 years? What about When they start winning again? That's going to happen. Give me a break about Houston attendance and support.

I think they Marlins get moved before the Rays. As long as they keep winning and making the playoffs they will scrape by.
I love the dome stadium and their Unis would hate to lose them.
Even sayin that I hated to see the Expos leave.

If you move the team to Tampa, you also bring in the tourist that go to Orlando. When I saw the Saints play the Bucs in 09, I stayed with a buddy that lived in Clearmont (West side of Orlando). It was not a bad drive going or coming back from Raymond James Stadium.
I believe that the closer to Orlando, the better the attendance will be. People could even plan their trip to Disney based on when their team plays the Rays.
