Multiple providers on the same power line to your home? Your neighbor can be on the same line but buy from a different provider?
Sounds fishy. How does this work, exactly?

Basically for Houston, Centerpoint energy reads the meters and maintains the poles and wires that deliver the electricity.
The other competing companies sell the electricity.

Exactly.

Centerpoint Energy still owns the lines and maintains everything.
It's just like when phone service was deregulated. You still had the same phone lines coming into your house but you could have different service than your neighbor.

But phone lines act as a network where you can literally get phone service from a different provider so long as they have included your switches in their network. Bandwidth allows for multiple providers to co-exist and to be somewhat autonomous (outside of maintaining infrastructure)
With energy, it can only flow from a single provider because multiple sources would be impossible to isolate.
Sounds like center point is the true provider and there's an extra layer for the middle men.
I understand that Texas has it's own grid so that probably helps. I'd be curious to know what people are paying per kWh (net).

Y'all aren't alarmed by power being more expensive in Texas than it is in most other states?
I would have thought proximity to natural resources, lower taxes, and fewer regulations on industry would make it one of the cheapest.

Yes. I just took the bill amount and divided it by kWh used. This includes surcharges and whatnot.

Alarmed? No. Not really sure why I should be "alarmed".

Ah, perfect timing. I'm in the market for a power provider in the DFW area right now as well.
Powertochoose is showing Gexa and Green Mountain Energy as the top two choices with best reviews in my area.
I read the positive reviews in here about Gexa....anyone ever try Green Mountain Energy?

The difference in my bill and your rate for last month would be about $14-16 a month. Not sure that's alarming. In the summer it would be a little more. Still don't think of it as alarming.

Millions of people enthusiastically paying an extra $150 to $200 a year for the privilege of having a middle man.
God bless America.

Not sure what your point is here. Median income in Texas is about 12-20% higher than Louisiana depending on what numbers you use.
Aren't you alarmed?

Nice to know about locking down rates before expiration.
I do look at power to choose but there's a boat load of I guess no name companies I'm unsure of. I check the reviews but they're confusing. As long as you have cheap power, what's the bitch?
