I think whoever owns that still uses it for banquets and things like that.

I thought they had remodeled the shopping center where the Broadmoor theater was...I remember a local AG grocer, a big chain pharmacy, and a 24 hour gym were considering that site.
It had decent traffic counts if I remember but the calculations were weird because of those stupid service roads. Older parts of Broadmoor had higher incomes and very promising demographics, but north of Florida had some iffy stats at the time (2010).
I wasn't sure it would be a good site for anything but a local grocery, ACE hardware, bank, gym, and a general store. Definitely not a regional center like a theater or super center. I think the developer thought the shopping center in the back was more visible than it really was.
I'd like to see something like a Hi Neighbor or Reeve's replace the old theater, but there is pretty stiff competition in that area as far as grocers go.

Broadmore Theater and that flea market next to it.
Damn that was a dump 20 years ago. I am glad I am never in that part of town.

What is the name motel down Airline thinking maybe right past Choctaw (not old Belmont), think it has the word Texas in it maybe? Pretty close to the crazy guy in the van setup with the big sign that says OBAMA--One Bad arse Mistake America.

Starring Motel. Don't care if it's abandoned or not. Until that building drops to the ground, I won't vote for St George.
I have never understood why people make a big deal about this place. The neighborhood isn't even that bad of an area, it's just an old motel. It's like people have formed this stigma about it being some crime infested crack den that is risky to even drive near.

They need to keep Tinseltown in case of the zombie apocalypse. Perfect venue for that.

Is this building not now the River Center?

It is. And it's used quite often and has been recently renovated and looks nice as frick, with a great lawn area for music and such.

Whatever. It needs to be torn down to make room for the MLB park we should build.

I miss going to see the Baton Rouge River Bats at Goldsby Field

Yeah that's what I thought. Just wanted to make sure before falling into previous posters moronic troll attempts

Thankfully they tore down the Belmont hotel

Yeah, a city councilmen's kid got shot there not long ago if I remember correctly

Goldsby Field
Haha. I remember playing some summer games at Goldsby. The outfield fence was a beast distance wise and left field one had holes all in in. Ground rule doubles galore.

quote:Yeah, the strip center where Poncho's used to be now has Planet Fitness, Family Dollar, and a couple of other places, and there is a Capital One out by the road. But the theater & flea market are still abandoned and badly deteriorated.

I used to love The Broadmoor growing up. It was the $2, second-run movie cinema, which was about all we could afford. We'd shop at that flea market regularly, too. I think my mom still has an armoire that she bought there back in the 80s.
quote:I live just a few blocks south of the shopping center, and I had to go to the ATM at CapOne last night at about 6:30. The parking lot had a shite-ton of cars in it. I think most of them were for Planet Fitness, but the center appears to be doing very well, overall. It could probably survive on business from Broadmoor & Sherwood Forest alone.
