I have lived in BR my entire life and can count on one hand the number of times I have gone north of Florida between Cortana and O'Neal. So I just looked at a google street view of N Little John and drove north. It does look like a predominantly black area, and the yards look well maintained. Even saw a few guys out weed eating. So while the area has different demographics than it did 30 years ago, at least there is hope that people are moving in and maintaining the neighborhood.
Of course, this is BR. I'm probably wrong.
I agree, it is very sad. I do think this is something that most cities struggle with. We need good leadership and smart growth/development/redevelopment to ensure that the changes made are for the better.

I'm not an expert on commercial property, but maybe the owner is depreciating the building for taxes? Is that even probable?
Partially because there was a ground lease on the land, which isn't even possible in today's market. Busreport had a whole write up on it earlier this year.

I must have missed that article. Honestly, there is so much room in that development that the theater could sit vacant for a while. They should take some of that land and build another interchange to get out of the area. It is asinine that a shopping center that big is controlled by ONE INTERSECTION.

All of them. Convert back to green space.

The Florida blvd/Sherwood area is just so damn ugly. Everything from the homes to the stores. I see no hope. I sure as hell wouldn't move out there. Also it's far away from everything and there's nothing to do out there.
I think the city has pretty much given up on this area.

Or they could reopen that school

You must have graduated from Lee

Nope, did not graduate there. Why did they close it by the way?
Posted on 4/29/14 at 3:43 am to trom83
Condemned, thought they renovated enough for BR High to relocate there for a couple years.
Might be plans to reopen it. The alumni have some obsession with keeping it open.

I knew a few people that went to that high school years ago

It was mostly the department stores, though, like the Dillard's I'm talking about (although it was Godchaux's back then).
Nope. Godchaux's was a sugar merchant and retail outlet in N.O. What you're looking for is Goudchaux - as in "the difference is you" like their commercials said. Spelled almost exactly the same but it was a different enterprise entirely.

Drove down Florida Blvd and noticed that the old flea market is torn down.

Lee High has been demolished. Site work has begun to build a new school on the site.

I was wondering if they were going to be building a new school there
