22 quail this morning, not bad considering the 20 mph wind!
12 of them for supper with caribou sausage and a selection of fine beverages.

Nice work! Didn't know quail season was still open.

How many coveys did you all find to kill 22? That is awesome

Of course they're domestic. Shooting non-domestic quail means the terrorists win.
Theres a guy on the Eastern Shore that does 5 big releases of birds a year. He has the sort of incubator/nursery set up that would bring Wickowick to tears. You're not allowed to walk around one side of it...something about wanting the birds to have never seen a human when they're released. Anyway, he releases an arse ton of birds, but they (typically) haven't seen humans. Most of the coveys didn't have more than maybe 5 flush, but they flushed well and, for only the 3rd time in my life, I didn't have to kick a single quail to get him to flush!

Ha! Eastern Shore of Maryland.

Because a guy by my old deer lease did same thing.

FWIW, there is a big difference between wild and hand raised quail. The wild ones fly like 20mph faster
That being said, quail hunting is my favorite bird hunting. I'm jelly

Unfortunately, I've only shot over wild WILD homegrown birds twice. Once in South Texas, once in VA. But, I have to say that I couldn't tell the difference save for the distance at which they flush.

Damn, every time I have been there has been a mix, and it is a noticeable difference. My grandpa used to raise them, and I could pick them out. You could basically step on the hand raised ones and they wouldn't get up

Definitely. We bring down some pen raised quail a few times a year to shoot when the wild quail aren't around, they do not like to fly at all. They all eat the same though.

Wild quail are a different animal...

Cooking some pen raised chukar tonight

I actually prefer chukar to quail in the frying pan.

Is quail a fatty meat?
ETA: Nevermind. Looked it up. Very healthy.
