If he gets tagged he supposedly with his agent will immediately file a grievance to move his tag from TE money to WR money and try to get the most he can out of the Saints

Ian Rappaport article

Is this fair? Will NoLa tag him still?

What say ye?

Considering he lines up at WR more than TE, it's fair IMO.

I'm about as worn out on this 'topic' as the Richie Incognito drama.

i think it's his agent's obligation to get him the most money as possible.

so yea, its fair. I dont think it will pass though. He's a TE

This logic is flawed.

Compare him to the top 5 WRs. What percentage of plays are they lined up wide or in the slot? 100%. Jimmy is around 60% I think. He's not a wide receiver. If he were he would never line up next to the tackle.

This is how I think it will go down:

They will tag him as a TE, his camp will fight and use the stats to say he should get WR money, then the team will make the argument that the modern TE is a hybrid role and it will take a while to sort out. Before a conclusion is reached, they'll agree on a ridiculous, cap-breaking deal and the team will be terrible in 2 seasons when 80% of the cap space is locked up in a QB, TE, and 2 guards.

We'll see, but WRs rarely line up as TEs. So if he is designated as a WR, why does he line up at TE so much?

Graham is softer than a slot receiver

He is incredible the majority of the time and sometimes he disappears for a whole game

The way the rule is written is youre supposed to get paid for the position you play the most.

There are some good ones in the draft

Jace Amaro is a great pass catching TE reminds me a lot of Graham

Ok ESPN provided some stats and things to consider

He is a top 5 TE salary wise (6.8 mil) and franchise tag would reflect that

Top 5 salary for WRs is about 11.6 mil

Graham lined up in the slot or out wide on 67% of his snaps in 2013

He caught 16 TD passes which is 2nd most ever by a TE Gronk had 17 in 2011

The past 3 season Graham leads the NFL in TD catches, 4th is total receptions, 8th in receiving yards (WR & TE) He has led all TEs in all 3 categories

He lines up at WR 65% of the time. So if it's just what he plays the most, he should get WR money.
