For a few years, it was "the in thing" to go to USC- sure didn't work out for Booty...he finally got a chance to play, then got injured; I wonder if he will ever admit he made a mistake going there, same goes for Mitch Mustain... They took an "I'll show you" attitude, and mostly collected pine on the bench.
Going to USC wasn't as big a mistake as taking away a kids senior season and giving one more year to develop by playing.

Peyton Manning was unsuccessful in his bid to give a Louisiana born quarterback victory in nine Super Bowls. Louisiana natives boast eight Super Bowl titles with Peyton once, Doug Williams once, Eli Manning twice and Terry Bradshaw four times.
LINK
This is probably what you were talking about. Not sure how LA ranks amongst other states, but that's a pretty good amount of SB wins for LA.

Many of the older coaches just don't want to put their fate in the arm of a quarterback. The logic is that you may have a great passing quarterback in school this year, but next year you may not. If only you could recruit in high school...
Makes sense. Especially at the high school level, not only is a great QB a rarity but he needs WR's who can get open and run after the catch. No wonder so many of them learn to run.

Tried looking for the link, but couldn't find it. I looked it up a couple years ago and Louisiana was at the top of the list with a few other states. Makes sense since Payton has played in 3, Eli in 2, Bradshaw had 4. Then you have Doug Williams, Woodley, Delhomme, etc...

My bad, knew I was forgetting someone. I think my HS coach might have been on that Northeast Louisiana team. He never once referred to the school as ULM

I still call it Northeast ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)

There is a great young QB at Riverside, Deuce Wallace.
He has a lot of potential, but is no where near where he needs to be just yet. With 2 years of hs he has a chance to drastically improve. Stubbs is a good head coach for him though.

Whenever Louisiana High School football coaches stop putting their best athletes at QB. Plus, if you look at the evolution of the game, the pro style QB is a dying breed.

this is very cyclical. la has 4 million residents and many other states have much much more. one year a long time ago, louisiana produced bert jones, terry bradshaw and joe ferguson all in the same year! all three had super nfl careers. also, pro style qb's are rare because high schools don't play pro style anymore so i think some pro style guys are playing baseball now. pitchers, outfielders; the guys with cannons for arms.

I realize you were being sarcastic. I was just showing homeboy that it's not just the filthy catholics that recruit.

The Catholics have not cornered the market in recruiting. Parkview Baptist, Evangel, John Curtis, West Monroe, Bastrop to name a few.
