Honestly that's what stuck out to me too. Who the frick cares what they call their teams? Our economy is going down the shitter and a multi billion dollar company making more money than they know what to do with is tax exempt?? Jesus

So much fail in the whole story. If they pull their tax exempt status, maybe they'll move the HQ overseas.

NFL does offer an educational purpose.

I think everyone can now knows that if you hit your head really hard into something else, repeatedly, you are likely to incur future brain damage.

Total misuse of governmental power. If the Redskins want to have an offensive name then that's their perogative.

Guess who isn't tax exempt. The 30 team owners that actually share in the billions the league makes.

Cantwell told the newspaper the Indian Affairs Committee would "definitely" examine the NFL's tax-exempt status as a means to apply pressure.

At least now they're being open about how big of pieces of shite they are.

Glad we finally found something our politicos can agree on.
I always looked at the name as kind of a badass type of name, kind of like the Vikings.
How does the London redskins sound

I'm Jewish, and if there was a team called the New York Kikes...

I would have a new favorite team.

all of the shite these assholes should be worried about, and they are worried about the fricking name of a football team.

If the redskins ever change their name. It would only be right for the 49ers, Patriots, Cowboys, Steelers,Raiders, Saints, Vikings and Buccaneers to change just off the top of my head. Wouldn't want to offend any of those groups. And this is just the NFL

Politicians will always look for distractions to avert our eyes away from the royal arse fricking they love to give us year in and year out.

Leave it to big gov't loons to be interested in using gov't to force morality on a private entity in the private sector.

It's sad how the Capitalism Fanboys are defending Daniel Snyder, and the funny thing is that this selfish frick wouldn't even piss on you if you were on fricking fire.

quote:

Redskins spokesman Tony Wyllie said in a statement, "With all the important issues Congress has to deal with such as a war in Afghanistan to deficits to health care, don't they have more important issues to worry about than a football team's name? And given the fact that the name of Oklahoma means 'Red People' in Choctaw, this request is a little ironic."

...and at this point the Redskins' official stance on this topic is "at this point we concede that we are wrong, but it isn't as important as the economy, so LEAVE US THE frick ALONE." That's a healthy stance there, people. And they throw in a red herring about the state of Oklahoma to boot in order to distract people.

Peter Pan DVDs have been yanked from shelves and Disney is being shut down for supporting racism: "what makes the red man red; what makes him ask you "how?""

It's a pretty good point, except nobody speaks Choctaw so I didn't know Oklahoma meant anything
